Welcome to a fresh week of MLB DFS! We have a little bit of a heavier than normal Monday night slate on our hands tonight as 12 games are set for action this evening. Let’s see who made the cut today and will get our week started on the right note!
P – Zack Greinke (ARI) – $11,900 vs. ATL
Headlining the pitching aspect of the lineup will be veteran right-hander Zack Greinke. Greinke has been at his best at home where he will take on the Braves this evening. In 71 innings at Chase Field this season Greinke has compiled a 2.41 ERA, 3.02 FIP and has struck out 32.8% of the batters he has faced there. These numbers greatly exceed the figures he has posted on the road this season so let’s roll with the resurgent righty where he is most comfortable tonight.
P – Justin Verlander (DET) – $8,700 vs. KC
It doesn’t appear the trade rumors are bothering Verlander all that much judging by how he has pitched recently. Verlander has allowed just five earned runs over his last three starts, one of which came against these same Royals where he tossed seven innings of two run ball to go along with eight punchouts. Verlander sports a solid 3.59 ERA at home this season compared to a 5.32 figure on the road, so let’s take the streaking righty in the pitching-friendly confines of Comerica Park this evening.
C – Alex Avila (DET) – $3,100 vs. KC
Verlander’s battery mate is having an excellent season and I believe this is a bargain at only $3,100. Avila will take on right-hander Jason Hammel who has a 5.74 xFIP on the road to left-handed batters this season. Avila sports a lofty .230 ISO and .937 OPS on the season against right-handed pitching while his .398 wOBA against them is an impressive team-leading mark as well. I will take these gaudy totals at this price any day of the week.
1B – Mike Napoli (TEX) – $3,900 vs. MIA
Napoli is certainly a boom-or-bust play which likely makes him better suited for GPP games. That said, the boom portion is a monstrous .364 ISO and .950 OPS on the season against left-handed pitching which is what he will see tonight against the Marlins’ Adam Conley. The bust comes in the form of a large 37% strikeout rate to lefties, but considering Conley has just a 15% strikeout clip to righties I am looking for more of the boom portion this evening.
2B – Jose Ramirez (CLE) – $4,700 vs. CIN
The Indians will take their cuts against the right-handed offerings of Tim Adelman and his 7.39 FIP to lefties this season so let’s roll with a Cleveland lefties stack today. It begins here with MVP candidate Jose Ramirez who sports a team-leading 1.011 OPS, .283 ISO and .419 wOBA against right-handed pitching this season. Considering Adleman is giving up home runs to lefties at a 2.79 HR/9 clip these numbers look even better heading into this matchup tonight.
3B – Ryon Healy (OAK) – $2,900 vs. TOR
Keep an eye on this one as Healy missed Oakland’s last two games, but he should return tonight in Toronto. This is a rather large bargain for a player that sports a .294 ISO and 1.047 OPS on the season against left-handed pitching which is what he will see against Francisco Liriano tonight. Liriano sports a 5.50 FIP to righties this season so let’s lock the right-handed Healy into this lineup for an advantageous matchup tonight.
SS – Francisco Lindor (CLE) – $4,500 vs. CIN
Lindor is still running into bad luck against righties this season with just a .234 BABIP against them, however he also sports a .208 ISO against righties as he clearly has power as evidenced by his ten homers and 17 doubles against them this season. Considering Adleman’s very poor numbers to lefties Lindor easily fits the Indians’ stack this evening.
OF – Bradley Zimmer (CLE) – $3,700 vs. CIN
Zimmer will technically lead off this stack tonight as he is projected to hit first this evening. Should that remain the case, Zimmer has plenty of value upside tonight against Adleman. While his .163 ISO and .749 OPS aren’t eye-popping totals, it does show some power while he has also swiped nine bases against righties this season. Should Zimmer reach base multiple times tonight we could get some of the speed and run scoring opportunities out of the rookie outfielder this evening.
OF – Joc Pederson (LAD) – $3,700 vs. MIN
Another very targetable pitcher tonight is the Twins’ Bartolo Colon. In what could be the final start of his lengthy MLB career (should it be a poor one), Colon will face a tough Dodgers’ offense. Pederson has hit right-handers to the tune of a .228 ISO and .841 OPS this season, numbers that scream value at this price. Considering Colon sports an 8.08 ERA on the road this season look for the young Dodgers’ outfielder to do some damage tonight.
OF – Alex Presley (DET) – $2,900 vs. KC
Forming a wrap-around mini-stack with Avila will be outfielder Alex Presley. Presley is certainly a more than capable bat against right-handed pitching as he sports a very nice .865 ISO and .375 wOBA on the season against opposite-handed pitching. He is also red-hot at the moment, going six for his last ten with a double and two RBIs.
