DraftKings MLB Picks – July 7th

Hopefully you were able to cash with last night’s lineup! The quality pitching trend continued as both Sale and Hill went seven innings and combined for 21 strikeouts. The ultra-value Bruce Maxwell hit a long ball and Yonder Alonso had a big night as well. Bradley Zimmer and Tzu-Wei Lin both delivered their value while Adam Jones collected a couple of hits to go along with a run scored to eclipse his value as well. Let’s build on last night’s momentum on tonight’s 13-game slate!

P – Max Scherzer (WAS) – $13,200 vs. ATL

There are a handful of top-notch arms on tonight’s slate, but the man who has consistently outscored his peers is Scherzer. Max will take his massive 35.6% strikeout clip into tonight’s contest against the Braves who hit right-handers to just a .733 OPS as a team. Scherzer has punched out at least ten batters in seven of his last eight starts and will likely see five right-handed bats tonight while he sports an incredible 45.7% strikeout clip against righties on the season.

P – Dan Straily (MIA) – $8,000 vs. SF

We have to go a bit cheaper with our second starter of the night but the consistent Dan Straily seems like a good bet. Straily sports a nice 24.5% strikeout rate on the season while he has yielded more than three earned runs in just one of his last 11 starts. While his numbers have been better at home, Straily still gets the hitting-friendly confines of AT&T Park in San Francisco as his venue tonight so let’s hope for some more consistency from the right-hander tonight.

C – Brian McCann (HOU) – $3,100 vs. TOR

McCann has interestingly enjoyed more success this season against left-handed pitchers than he has righties, but he has great BvP numbers against the Jays’ Aaron Sanchez. McCann has only two hits in ten at-bats against Sanchez, but both of those hits have left the yard. Catcher is a thin position tonight, so let’s go with some cost savings and home run upside with McCann in a hitting-friendly environment in Toronto.

1B – Trey Mancini (BAL) – $3,700 vs. MIN

Leading off an Orioles’ stack against Twins’ right-hander Felix Jorge is the slugging first baseman Trey Mancini. It may surprise you to know that Mancini’s .265 ISO, .981 OPS, .599 SLG% and .409 wOBA all lead the Orioles against right-handed pitching. His 36.8% hard contact against righties also leads the team so we can certainly welcome the cost-effective Mancini into this lineup tonight.

2B – Jonathan Schoop (BAL) – $4,600 vs. MIN

Whose numbers do you think are second best on the Orioles against right-handed pitching? You guessed it. Schoop sports a .233 ISO, .895 OPS and .375 wOBA against righties on the season which is no surprise to me as he has been a reverse-splits hitter throughout his career. Schoop has moved up into the top third of Buck Showalter’s batting order so roll the slightly expensive Schoop with confidence tonight.

3B – Manny Machado (BAL) – $3,800 vs. MIN

Better get on the Machado train while you can still afford him. Machado sports a solid .190 ISO on the season against right-handed pitching, but he has been bitten by the bad luck bug thanks to a very low .219 BABIP against them. Considering his career BABIP against righties is .297 we can expect an 80 point jump in this number which means plenty of hits for the talented third baseman moving forward.

SS – Trevor Story (COL) – $3,900 vs. CWS

Simply put you cannot afford to leave the cost-effective Story out of your lineup tonight. Story easily boasts the most value upside here as he sports a massive .318 ISO, .942 OPS, .392 wOBA and a 43.6% hard contact rate against left-handed pitching. Lefty Derek Holland sports a 2.63 HR/9, 6.85 FIP, 43.1% fly ball rate and a 42.1% hard contact rate to right-handed hitters on the road which is not a good thing at Coors Field in Colorado. Lock this guy into your lineup tonight.

OF – Brett Gardner (NYY) – $4,300 vs. MIL

A fantastic play out of the leadoff spot for the Yankees tonight is Brett Gardner. He will face the right-handed Junior Guerra of the Brewers tonight at Yankee Stadium who owns a 1.93 HR/9, 6.59 FIP and a big 47.7% fly ball rate to lefties on the road this season. Yielding fly balls to lefties is not a good thing considering the short porch in right field at Yankee Stadium, and considering Gardner sports a .219 ISO, .869 OPS and a 37.8% hard contact rate against righties we have a very nice play here.

OF – Clint Frazier (NYY) – $2,700 vs. MIL

Forming a wrap-around mini-stack with Gardner out of the nine hole for the Yankees tonight is Clint Frazier. Frazier sported a nice .808 OPS against right-handed pitching prior to his call up and should be able to get to Guerra considering his HR/9 on the road to righties is 4.05 and his FIP sits at 10.36 to righties on the road. Plenty of value to be had in this matchup as well.

OF – Hyun Soo Kim (BAL) – $2,700 vs. MIN

Finishing off the Orioles’ stack and this lineup is the left-handed hitting Hyun Soo Kim. Although Kim hasn’t enjoyed much success this season, he hits righties much better than lefties and produced an .839 OPS against righties in the 2016 season. He also fits this Orioles stack perfectly against a subpar pitcher so let’s roll with Kim as our final play of the night.
