Hopefully you were able to cash using last night’s lineup! The White Sox stack worked like a charm while Jonathan Schoop and Trey Mancini did their own damage in this game as well. It was a disappointing effort from Stephen Strasburg, but an encouraging one from Masahiro Tanaka. We are off to a great start for the week so let’s keep thing going with tonight’s picks!
P – Zack Greinke (ARI) – $12,200 vs. DET
Greinke is enjoying a very nice bounce back season as he enters play tonight sporting a 10.67 HR/9 clip on the season while his 3.20 ERA matches up quite nicely with his 3.19 FIP which confirms the stellar start to the season. He will take on a Tigers’ offense that can hit, however they also strike out a lot and boast the fifth-most strikeouts in the MLB this season against right-handed pitching. Look for Greinke to have another solid effort in the pitching-friendly confines of Comerica Park tonight.
P – Jacob Faria (TB) – $7,500 vs. TOR
This play is a GPP play for sure, but Faria has some big upside thanks to his massive strikeout numbers in the minors. Faria has posted an enormous 12.89 K/9 on the season in Triple-A while crafting a 3.08 ERA in the minors’ highest level. He takes on a Blue Jays team tonight that doesn’t strikeout a ton against righties, but their team OPS ranks 20th in the big leagues against righties. Faria is a guy to keep an eye on in the DFS circle as he seems to have a rotation spot locked down while Matt Andriese is on the DL.
C – Cameron Rupp (PHI) – $2,600 vs. BOS
Rupp has frequented this list quite a bit this season but his matchup tonight is too hard to leave him off. Rupp will take his .225 ISO and .976 OPS against left-handed pitching into a matchup with Boston’s David Price who has surrendered a 2.35 HR/9 and a 6.42 FIP to right-handed hitters through three starts this season. Price is also giving up a 47.5% fly ball rate to righties, which is not a good thing in the hitting friendly confines of Fenway Park.
1B – Tommy Joseph (PHI) – $3,400 vs. BOS
Forming a mini-stack with Rupp is first baseman Tommy Joseph who benefits from a very similar matchup tonight against Price. Joseph carries a massive .320 ISO against left-handed pitching into this matchup. His .736 OPS against lefties is being dogged by a tiny .129 BABIP against lefties. Huge positive regression is coming for Joseph in the OPS department and that could begin tonight against Price.
2B – Neil Walker (NYM) – $4,500 vs. CHC
There are a handful of lefty mashers on the Mets and last season Walker was among the best. In 2016 Walker hit lefties to a massive .280 ISO and a 1.001 OPS. This season, his numbers are down against lefties but he boasts a strong walk rate and a low strikeout rate to lefties as his figures should trend up towards last season’s numbers against southpaw pitching.
3B – Wilmer Flores (NYM) – $3,100 vs. CHC
Flores is certainly going to compete with Rupp for the best value in tonight’s lineup. Flores absolutely mashes left-handed pitching as evidenced by his enormous .370 ISO and 1.093 OPS against lefties in 2016 and his .235 ISO and 1.064 OPS against lefties this season. He has also homered off of Cubs’ lefty Jon Lester three times in just 13 career at bats against the veteran.
SS – Carlos Correa (HOU) – $4,900 vs. TEX
One of the best shortstops in the AL will enter this lineup tonight as Carlos Correa takes on Rangers’ right-hander Nick Martinez. Martinez has been pretty bad to both sides of the plate this season, but this pick rides on the fact that Correa is a reverse splits hitter and hits righties much better than lefties. He sports a .230 ISO and a .902 OPS against righties this season compared to a .140 ISO and a .765 OPS against left-handed pitching. Roll him with confidence tonight.
OF – Mark Trumbo (BAL) – $3,400 vs. CWS
Another guy who could bring serious value to the table tonight is last season’s home run king in Mark Trumbo. While Trumbo’s numbers against left-handed pitching are down on the season, he has absolutely destroyed White Sox lefty Derek Holland in his career. Trumbo is a career .319 hitter with three doubles and five home runs against Holland. Enough said.
OF – Yoenis Cespedes (NYM) – $4,700 vs. CHC
Cespedes should play tonight despite a heel ailment, and that is bad news for Lester as he has another lefty masher to deal with tonight. Cespedes has hit lefties to a massive .579 ISO and a 1.175 OPS against lefties in a 21 plate appearance sample this season, but he also hit them to a .282 ISO and a 1.081 OPS in 2016. He will fit nicely in this lineup in between Walker and Flores tonight.
OF – Carlos Beltran (HOU) – $3,700 vs. TEX
Forming a solid mini-stack with Correa tonight will be veteran outfielder Carlos Beltran. Beltran has hit righties for much more power this season as evidenced by his .205 ISO against righties this season compared to a very low 0.77 mark against lefties. Houston is projected to score 5.5 runs tonight so it’s handy to have some Astros’ exposure with Beltran and Correa tonight.
