Last night’s lineup had the pitching bang on, but the lineup would have hinged on what you did in replacing Curtis Granderson and Yasmani Grandal and both players did not start. If you pivoted to Andre Ethier, good for you as he would have provided a very low-owned home run. We have another two-game slate on our hands today so let’s get right to it!
P – Dallas Keuchel (HOU) – $9,300 vs. NYY
Keuchel has been dominant this postseason, pitching 12.2 innings of one-run ball to go along with 17 strikeouts. Ten of those strikeouts came against these Yankees in Game 1 of this series and I don’t see why we would need to think something similar couldn’t happen again tonight. The Yankees offense has perked up while winning the last two games, but that has largely been against the Astros’ bullpen, not the starting pitching. Make sure to lock and load Keuchel has he hasn’t given up more than two earned runs over his last five starts.
P – Masahiro Tanaka (NYY) – $8,100 vs. HOU
While Tanaka is facing Keuchel, we saw a complete duel in Game 1 of this series between these two while Tanaka has also been very good this postseason. He has thrown 13 innings of two-run ball to go with ten strikeouts during that stretch. While he struck out only three across six innings in Game 1, he has all his pitches working and walked just a single batter, showing great command in the process. Don’t be afraid to roster these two going head-to-head tonight.
C – Willson Contreras (CHC) – $3,300 vs. LAD
The Cubs are in a do-or-die situation tonight, but the good news is they hit left-handed pitching very well and will face lefty Alex Wood tonight. Contreras produced a .243 ISO, .916 OPS and a .386 wOBA against southpaw pitching this season. He took a ball off the forearm last night but he should be good to go for tonight’s matchup, which is good news for the Cubs. There is also a heavy wind blowing out to left field tonight, a great advantage for the righty-swinging Contreras.
1B – Cody Bellinger (LAD) – $4,900 vs. CHC
Another targetable pitcher tonight is Jake Arrieta. While Arrieta didn’t give up any runs in his four innings against the Nationals in the NLDS, he walked five batters and lasted just those four innings. Bellinger had a massive .323 ISO, .948 OPS and a .383 wOBA on the season against right-handed pitching. The Dodgers could also feast off of what has been a poor Cubs’ bullpen this postseason.
2B – Javier Baez (CHC) – $2,800 vs. LAD
While Baez got benched last night due to a 0 for 19 slump, the second baseman simply mashes left-handed pitching. He posted a team-leading .266 ISO against lefties to go along with a .934 OPS and a .378 wOBA on the season. He also mashed at home, posting an ISO north of .300, an OPS north of 1.000 and a wOBA of .428 against lefties at Wrigley. The jet stream out to left field certainly helps Baez.
3B – Kris Bryant (CHC) – $4,400 vs. LAD
Bryant is yet another lefty-masher on this Cubs team. For the season he led the Cubs with a .405 wOBA against southpaws while also posting a .216 ISO and a team-leading .956 OPS as well. Bryant has enjoyed the most success in his career against Wood as he is 3 for 8 with a homer and a double off of the left-hander. Look for his bat to spark the rallies tonight.
SS – Addison Russell (CHC) – $3,400 vs. LAD
Here is a real nice GPP play as most of the field will likely go for the red-hot Carlos Correa at the shortstop position. Russell is another Cub who hit lefties well this season with a .184 ISO, .821 OPS and a .346 wOBA against them. These are certainly good numbers and when we factor in the low ownership Russell makes plenty of sense, especially as part of a Cubs stack.
OF – Yasiel Puig (LAD) – $4,300 vs. CHC
While Arrieta is worse to left-handed hitters. Puig has swung a solid bat this postseason and also brings some stolen base upside with him to the table. Puig is also a reverse splits hitter, hitting righties for a .266 ISO, .909 OPS and a .377 wOBA this season. He stole 15 bases on the season and it wouldn’t surprise me to see him go for it tonight against Arrieta who yielded 19 stolen bases on the season.
OF – Chris Taylor (LAD) – $3,800 vs. CHC
Similar reasoning here with Taylor that we had for Puig. Taylor brings plenty of stolen base upside with him as he swiped 17 bags this season while hitting righties for a .215 ISO, .855 OPS and a .364 wOBA on the season. He swung a very nice bat in last night’s win as he homered and tripled and as a right-handed bat could take advantage of that jet stream again tonight.
OF – Curtis Granderson (LAD) – $3,300 vs. CHC
Granderson may not start again tonight, but if he doesn’t you can pivot to Joc Pederson here. However, Granderson hit 26 home runs this season and produced a big .255 ISO against right-handed pitching. He has also enjoyed plenty of success in his career against Arrieta as he is 11 for 34 (.324) with three homers, two doubles, a triple and three stolen bases against the right-hander. That type of production just might get him the start tonight.
