Giants vs. Diamondbacks MLB Pick – August 26th

We are back after a one-day travel-related hiatus and ready to dive into a packed day of Major League Baseball action. Hopefully those of you near and around Texas are all safe and sound and recovering quickly!!

On the diamond, there are a few big decent matchups today, highlighted by the Brewers trying desperately to stay in the National League Central race despite a brutal matchup with the historically-hot Los Angeles Dodgers. They were unable to solve the Dodgers last night, but the Cubs got smoked by Philly so no harm done aside from a day lost. Tonight, they get a semi-break, facing Ross Stripling instead of a normal rotation guy, but it is still the Dodgers in Los Angeles where they are a stupid 52-14 this season…

Chicago will try to get on the right side of Philly tonight with Kyle Hendricks the heavy favorite over Ben Lively and the Phillies. Elsewhere in NL Central action, the Cardinals can ill-afford not to take advantage of a visit from the Rays as their seemingly-strong hopes of a week ago are beginning to also fade.

It should be a good day of action. Let’s make it even better with a winning wager!

Today’s MLB Pick:

San Francisco Giants +112 at Arizona Diamondbacks -120 (Total: 8.5)
Madison Bumgarner (3-5, 2.87 ERA) vs. Tijuan Walker (6-7, 3.66 ERA)

Yes, obviously the Diamondbacks are the better team, they are playing at home, and they have a massively better offense. But – give me MadBum at PLUS money?? I’m going to listen.

Bumgarner has sown no ill-effects of a dirt bike accident that cost him more than half the season, and likely set the wheels in motion for one of the worst Giants seasons in decades. But he is back now, and for one night – and that’s all we are wagering on – the value is tough to pass up. He has struck out 36 batters in his last six starts, spanning 38 innings, and has allowed just nine earned runs for a 2.13 ERA. He’s been himself, and that guy wins a lot of baseball games.

The Giants are actually pretty good in Arizona as well, going 15-7 ATS in their last 22 in the desert and they have won four of the last five there. Tijuan Walker has had a pretty good season as well, but with an ERA in the high fours against the Giants, I’ll give the edge to Bumgarner tonight, despite the obvious difference in overall team quality.

The old axiom is that good pitching beats good hitting, right? I’ll put my money where my mouth is tonight with the beer-chugging World Series MVP on the hill.
