We picked up a nice fat plus-money winner last night with the Milwaukee Brewers outlasting the St. Louis Cardinals in a rain-soaked delayed marathon, 7-6. Mike Leake’s hot start continued to fade into the distant mempry with his fourth straight non-quality start, and this was the worst of the bunch, allowing six earned runs in six innings. Matt Garza wasn’t great in opposition, but it was enough to give the Brewers a chance to win, which is all you can ask for in a +160 underdog.
It’s a limited slate of action tonight as a few teams have day time getaway games, a few teams are off all together, and a couple weekend series get an early start like the pivotal Nationals vs. Mets four-game set. It feels weird to call any series in mid-June a do-or-die series, but it applies to the Mets who get a golden opportunity to make the NL East into a race again. They enter 8 ½ games back – about as close as they have been in months – and taking three of four, or even a stunning sweep, could make the most boring division in baseball a little more interesting…
Let’s see if we can grab a third straight winner and build off yesterday’s big underdog winner.
Today’s MLB Pick:
San Francisco Giants +144 vs Colorado Rockies -150 (Total: 11)
Matt Moore (2-7, 5.28 ERA) vs. Jeff Hoffman (4-0, 2.33 ERA)
If the over/under from Vegas is any indication, we could be in for a shootout with the Rockies returning home to Coors Field tonight. Eleven is big number, especially considering the Giants offensive woes, but I wouldn’t put a massive performance past the Rockies with Matt Moore on the mound. The Giants hurler is just 2-7 this season with an ERA over 5.00 and despite five quality starts in his last ten outings, his ERA hasn’t ever gotten back down to respectable. In his last two outings, the trouble has returned, allowing eight runs over ten innings. Those games were against the Twins and Phillies. Tonight is a road game against the Rockies at Coors Field.
Opposing Moore is Jeff Hoffman who has been spectacular since joining the Rockies rotation. The 24-year old hurler hasn’t failed to deliver a quality start yet and he gets to face a scuffling Giants lineup. The Rockies are big favorites, but are a nice value at +120 on the runline.
The Giants are 2-8 in Matt Moore’s last ten starts. The Rockies haven’t lose this season with Hoffman on the mound (4-0) and has won every one of those games by more than one run and an average of five runs. Colorado is 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games and 5-1 ATS in their last six games hosting the Giants.
Today’s MLB Pick: COLORADO ROCKIES RUNLINE (-1.5) +120
