The Houston Astros and New York Yankees clash at Yankee Stadium for a four-game series. This is the biggest series of the weekend, with two heavyweights going head-to-head in the Bronx. It could be a preview of a big postseason series in October.

The Yankees have been serious underachievers in the postseason in recent memory, but are they for real now? It definitely looks like the Yankees are ready to shake off criticism from past years and get to the World Series. At least judging from their regular season form, the Yankees are ready to perform in October.
The Astros have proven that they’re capable of going deep in the postseason. They landed in the World Series in 2017, 2019, and 2021 and won in 2017. The Yankees don’t have that clutch DNA yet.
The Yankees are going into tonight at 51-18 and 12 games ahead of the Toronto Blue Jays in the AL Central. It’s all Yankees without any competition at the minute. The Blue Jays could get hot, and the Red Sox are playing pretty well, but the Yankees are feeling comfortable.
They won two of three games at the Rogers Centre and just missed out on a sweep in a 10-9 loss on Sunday. The Yankees won two of three games against the Rays in their latest series. They are coming off a 5-4 win at the Trop yesterday.
The Astros are on a New York road trip, as they head to the Bronx after two games in Queens. They were the better team with an 8-2 and 5-3 win.
Houston has a considerable lead on their opponents as well. They are 43-25 and have a ten-game lead on the Rangers in the AL West. The Angels brought out the red carpet for them.

Astros vs. Yankees Prediction:
The ‘Stros are turning to Framber Valdez to keep the Astros on track. Valdez is going into this one with an ERA of 2.78 and a 1.15 WHIP through 81 innings. He handled his last three attempts for a 3.50 ERA and 1.22 WHIP.
Valdez has been better on the road, with a 1.61 ERA and 0.92 WHIP in 46.1 innings of work. He has a 4.21 ERA and 1.43 WHIP at Minute Maid Park.
The one caveat for Valdez is that he’s allowed 9 RBIs to the Yankees in 49 at-bats versus this lineup. That would account for around two starts if he pitched a full game.
He has a tough assignment versus a Yankee team that are swinging the bats at a high level. The Yanks are the second-best club in the majors with 5.11 runs per 9 innings.
The Bronx Bombers are the most dangerous team at the plate, as they’ve smacked 1.72 home runs per game and a .768. At Yankee Stadium, they’ve notched 1.8 home runs, and 5.31 home runs a game.
Taillon is in the best shape of his career and on pace for a career-high. The former Buc is entering tonight with a 2.70 ERA and 1.06 WHIP. His previous career-high is a 3.20 ERA in 2018 since entering the majors in 2016.
Houston Astros vs. New York Yankees Betting Trends:
- Record (Last 10): 7-3
- 2-6 overall in their previous eight games as an underdog
- 1-4 overall in their previous five games versus the AL East
- 5-11 overall in their previous 16 games at Yankee Stadium
- 8-2 overall in their previous ten games on the road
- UNDER is 10-1-1 in their previous 12 games on a Thursday
- Record (Last 10): 8-2
- 5-0 overall in their previous five games on a Thursday
- 4-0 overall in their previous four games versus the AL West
- 5-0 overall in their previous five games versus a team with a winning percentage better than 60%
- 40-11 overall in their previous 51 games as a betting favorite
- 11-5 overall in their previous 16 games versus the Astros at home
Taillon has been strong at home with an ERA of 2.70 and a 1.07 WHIP through 40 innings. He hasn’t had a bad time against the ‘Stros as well.
The bullpens are pretty well equal as powerhouses, so that’s a wash at Yankee Stadium tonight. However, the Yankees’ bats should have the advantage in this one.
In past years, the Yankees would disappoint in a big series, but they’ve been impressing in these spots this season. That said, the Yankees did win both series versus the Astros last year.
The Astros and Yankees are must-watch TV tonight and through the weekend. In the first meeting, I will side with the Yanks to edge the Astros out in a 5-4 or 4-3 win.
