The Cleveland Indians will look to close out the Chicago White Sox with a sweep on Sunday. The Tribe made easy work of the White Sox on Friday, and then narrowly escaped with a 5-4 win on Saturday. Life has been good for the Indians lately, as they continue to own the lead in the American League Central. The Royals couldn’t gain any ground yesterday, losing a tough one to the Red Sox in extras. Despite all that, I think it’s going to be an interesting finish to the regular season in the AL Central. The Royals are going to have one last run in them, but will it be enough?
It isn’t like the Royals have been playing bad baseball, quite good in fact, but the Indians have been fending them off with a run of their own. The Indians have now won nine games in a row after their win yesterday. Their bats are performing extremely well and rode a nice wave of success in July. We’ll see if it continues in August, as we’re just two months away from the end of the regular season. The Indians and Royals both have recent experience in the World Series, but the Royals were able to win, while the Indians watched the Cubs win it all.
We won a nail-biter last night, but it shouldn’t haven’t been that difficult. The Red Sox beat the Royals in extras innings, but this was after some god awful base running and errors. It didn’t matter in the end, though, as we cashed in and continue our roll in the month of July. With only two more days left in July, let’s finish up strong all the way into football season. Get our free Indians vs. White So pick below, and hopefully an end to the weekend on a positive note.
Cleveland Indians vs. Chicago White Sox Pick
Josh Tomlin (7-9, 5.59 ERA) vs. Carlos Rodon (1-4, 6.29 ERA)
While the Indians and Royals are battling it out in the AL Central, the White Sox are in the basement trying to get anything going in the right direction. If you recall, the White Sox looked like they might be the surprise team of the division. But that was then and this is now, and right now the White Sox are in dead last, 14.5 games back of 1st. Other than that brief stretch of success in the first month, the White Sox have been playing like one of the worst teams in the majors. Carlos Rodon, who has been a mess in his own right, will get a start on Sunday as he looks to turn it around.
Rodon enters Sunday with a discouraging ERA of 6.29, parlayed with a 1.77 WHIP and .377 OBA. Rodon has worked hard to get back to the majors after a bicep injury, but looking at how he’s pitching, it appears that something is still bothering him. He came back in late June and hasn’t shown much thus far. In his last three starts, he’s gotten ripped for a 10.38 ERA and 2.15 WHIP. In 12.3 innings, he’s surrendered a whopping 15 runs. If it keeps up, Rodon could be right back to the DL or down in the minors.
Josh Tomlin will fire back at Rodon, who will more than likely be left out of the postseason rotation for the Indians, if they do in fact reach the postseason. He’s been off, posting a 5.59 ERA in 2017. Tomlin has allowed 19 deep balls on the year. In any case, he should have plenty of run support in this game. I don’t like the Indians at that steep price, but I do like a plethora of runs to put this one OVER the total.
PICK: OVER 9.5 (-115)
