The Kansas City Royals have a nine-game road trip ahead, beginning in the desert at Chase Field.
The Royals open their trip with a two-game interleague series against the Arizona Diamondbacks. This is a two-game series and then stops in Minnesota and Cleveland.

Their next game at home is against the Houston Astros on June 3. They have been just about on par with expectations this season.
The Royals are going into tonight with a record of 14-26. The only mild surprise is that the Royals don’t have the worst record in the AL Central.
Kind of. The Royals are in a tie with the Detroit Tigers at 14-26 and 10.5 games behind the Minnesota Twins in the division. Expect this to change, with the Tigers edging away from the Royals.
The Tigers have a much better roster than the Royals and should steadily improve this summer. Look at the Tigers as a pretty good value bet with the public, and oddsmakers will probably be slow to react.
KC is coming off three straight losses in a sweep to the Twins over the weekend. It was a tough one to swallow Sunday, with the Royals blowing a 6-0 lead going into the top of the 8th.
This is a brutal loss for a team that was already on a three-game losing streak. The Royals will look to Zack Greinke to end the skid and get back on track.
Greinke opened his career with the Royals and may end his career in Kansas City. There isn’t much pressure on him this season after acing pressure over the previous three years in Houston.
The Diamondbacks are expected to send Zach Davies to the bump for the Diamondbacks tonight. They beat the Chicago Cubs in two of three games at Wrigley this weekend, but couldn’t complete the sweep with a 5-4 loss on Sunday.
The Diamondbacks carry a record of 21-22 into tonight. They are well ahead of their pace from last season. Arizona finished tied for last in the majors at 52-110.

Royals vs. Diamondbacks Prediction:
Zack Greinke is meeting expectations going into the desert. He’s posted an ERA of 3.48 and a 1.20 WHIP going into this one. That’s about what you can expect from Greinke at this point in his career.
Greinke recorded an ERA of 3.02, 4.03, and 4.16 in his three seasons with the Astros. If the Royals can get around a 3.50 ERA out of Greinke in 2022, they’ll be fine with that kind of production.
He hasn’t been in the best form on the road this season, though. Greinke is strong at Kauffman Stadium with an ERA of 2.49 and a 1.25 WHIP.
Greinke is going into tonight with an ERA of 5.06 and a 1.62 WHIP. He conceded 25 hits and 9 earned runs in 16 innings in his previous three outings.
The Diamondbacks have had some success against Greinke. This lineup is hitting .302 with 2 home runs and 8 RBIs in 35 at-bats versus the veteran.
Kansas City Royals vs. Arizona Diamondbacks Betting Trends:
Royals
- Record (Last 10): 4-6
- 4-17 overall in their previous 21 games after scoring 5 or more runs
- 0-5 overall in their previous five games after conceding 5 or more runs
- 1-6 overall in their previous seven games versus a team with a losing record
- 6-20 overall in their previous 26 games as an underdog
- 3-7 overall in their previous ten games versus a right-handed starter
Diamondbacks
- Record (Last 10): 3-7
- 7-3 overall in their previous ten games after their opponent concedes 5 or more runs
- 7-19 overall in their previous 26 games versus the American League
- 2-7 overall in their previous nine games on a Monday
- UNDER is 7-0-1 in their previous eight games as a betting favorite
- UNDER is 10-1-2 in their previous 13 games versus a right-handed starter
The Diamondbacks are much improved this season. There hasn’t been anything to look forward to for Diamondbacks fans in recent years, but the young talent coming up should put them in a good spot soon.

The D-backs aren’t at that stage yet, and they have the unfortunate privilege of playing in the best division in baseball. The Snakes have to contend with the Padres, Giants, and Dodgers.
Zach Davies has been in fine form with an ERA of 4.35 and a 1.25 WHIP. He’s had much better control at home, where Davies owns a 3.43 ERA and 1.24 WHIP as opposed to a 5.40 ERA and 1.25 WHIP on the road.
The Royals are hitting just .167 with 2 RBIs in 20 at-bats against Davies. Overall, the Royals are 24th in the majors, with 3.69 runs per 9 innings in 2022.
I’m backing the Diamondbacks to win a 5-3 or 4-3 final at Chase Field on Monday night.
