The Kansas City Royals and Cleveland Guardians return to Progressive Field for the second of three games. The Guardians opened with an impressive 7-3 win last night. Zach Plesac was in good form, with 5 hits and 1 earned run allowed through 6 innings.

Conversely, Jonathan Heasley had little to show for his effort last night. He was tagged for 6 hits and 3 earned runs across 6 innings of work. Jose Ramirez and Andres Gimenez had big showings with 3 RBIs each.
The Guardians are 20-24 and 6.5 games behind the Minnesota Twins for the lead in the AL Central. The Twins are still the only team in the division with a record better than .500.
The White Sox continue to tread water at .500 with a record of 23-23, but the Twins remain the only team over the hump. It’s clearly been a slow start for the AL Central, but expect things to open up soon.
The one team that could be a sleeper and a good bet over the summer is the Detroit Tigers. There were expectations for this team to be competitive going into the season, and they tripped through the first two months. They should stabilize and go on a run.
The Guardians are a team with a big question mark over their heads right now. They are hoping to at least be better than .500. Detroit was in the basement, but they’ve pulled ahead of the Royals and should pull away.
Cal Quantrill is coming off a big performance against the Houston Astros in a 2-1 loss. Despite the loss, Quantrill did what he could to keep the Guardians in contention.
Daniel Lynch is scheduled to be in the saddle for the Royals. He’s holding up well in his second season in the majors after a below-average 15-start rookie campaign. Head below for our free Royals vs. Guardians prediction on May 31, 2022.

Royals vs. Guardians Prediction:
The Royals are looking for positives here and there this season. One of those is lefty Daniel Lynch. They want him to be a big part of their future in Kansas City.
He got his feet wet, with an ERA of 3.92 and a 1.41 WHIP across 39 innings. Lynch is going into Progressive Field with a 3.55 ERA and 1.50 WHIP in his previous three starts. He was on fire three starts ago, having allowed no runs in 5.1 innings against the Rockies.
That was the most impressive start of Lynch’s career, this coming at Coors Field. Since then, Lynch has allowed 6 earned runs across 9 innings of work.
Cleveland had success against Lynch in previous matchups. They are hitting .344 with an OBP of .438. The Guardians tagged Lynch for 5 RBIs in 29 at-bats.
They are backed by Cal Quantrill, who is in good shape at the moment. The 27-year-old is coming off two standout performances against the Reds and Astros.
