The Los Angles Angels and New York Yankees set up for a three-game series at Yankee Stadium this week. The Yankees are at home in the Bronx for their six games. Following this series, the Yankees will host the Detroit Tigers for three days over the weekend.

The Bronx Bombers are clear in the AL East at the moment. They are entering tonight with a record of 33-15 and five games up on the Tampa Bay Rays for top honors. I’d watch what happens in the division deep into the summer, though.
Don’t be surprised if the Rays and Blue Jays make things a little more interesting in the division. They aren’t going to go away quietly and expect both to get hot in the summer.
The Yankees are coming off a 4-2 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays two days back. They also lost the Saturday matchup, with a 3-1 loss at the Tropicana. Despite the two losses, the Yankees won the first two games of the series and took a split.

If the bats aren’t working, the pitching staff is losing games for the Angels. After a 6-3, 4-3, and 6-5 loss, the Angels lost a shootout by a run at Angel Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Noah Syndergaard is back in New York, but he isn’t pitching for the Mets. Syndergaard gets the call for his eighth start with his new ball club.
Lefty Jordan Montgomery, who continues to turn out steady and consistent work in the pinstripes, is scheduled to get the call for the Yanks. Head below for our free Angels vs. Yankees prediction on May 31, 2022.

Angels vs. Yankees Prediction:
Noah Syndergaard has the best years of his career in Queens. He was there for six years and recorded a career-high ERA of 2.60 in 2016. However, Syndergaard suffered an injury and regressed in 2019 with a 4.28 ERA and 1.23 WHIP.
With a fresh start in Anaheim, Syndergaard is looking to regain his form. He missed all 2020 with the injury, and then upon his return in 2021, pitched two games with an ERA of 9.00 and a 1.50 WHIP. That was the end of his stay in Queens with the Mets.
He is going into Yankee Stadium with an ERA of 3.08 and a 1.18 WHIP. Those are solid numbers for Syndergaard to open his career in Anaheim.
The Angels are getting what they hoped to get from Syndergaard. Having said that, Syndergaard has not been reliable on the road.
It has been clear sailing for Syndergaard at Angel Stadium this season. He’s been in good order with an ERA of 1.48 and a 0.86 WHIP, but far less reliable on the road.
That’s not the best plan to have on the road at Yankee Stadium. The Yankees are scoring 4.71 runs per 9 innings at home and 4.6 runs overall for top-10 in the major leagues.
LA Angels vs. NY Yankees Betting Trends:
- Record (Last 10): 3-7
- 0-5 overall in their previous five games
- 0-5 overall in their previous five games versus the AL East
- 1-4 overall in their previous five games versus a left-handed starter
- 1-4 overall in their previous five games after allowing 5 or more runs
- 2-7 overall in their previous nine games after a day off
- Record (Last 10): 5-5
- 6-1 overall in their previous seven games versus the AL West
- 10-3 overall in their previous 13 games after a loss
- 10-3 overall in their previous 13 games versus a team with a winning record
- 40-19 overall in their previous 59 games at home
- 24-8 overal in their previous 32 first game of a series
Montgomery is mr. reliable and continues to operate consistently and reliably. He’s generally been around a 3.60 ERA to 3.90 ERA pitcher in his career. Montgomery has been trending above that line in 2022, though.
Montgomery hasn’t allowed more than 3 earned runs in a start this season. He’s given up 2 or fewer earned runs in seven of his previous eight attempts.
After a solid start this season, the Angels are living up to their reputation as a team that can’t be trusted. The Astros are sitting pretty fine in the AL West if the Angels are their biggest threat.
The Yankees look like the right play at home tonight.
