Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Arizona Diamondbacks Pick – MLB May 26, 2022

The Los Angeles Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks clash at Chase Field for a four-game series in the desert. The Diamondbacks aren’t the same team that the Dodgers played last year. They are heading in the right direction nicely.

Don’t look for the Diamondbacks to become a postseason team in 2022. However, they are working well towards being a competitive team in the NL West in the next two years. Some young talent coming up in the organization should be ready by then.

If the front office plays their cards right, the Diamondbacks may have a dangerous roster in Phoenix soon. The Diamondbacks looked like a different team in their most recent series.

Arizona got behind in back-to-back games against the Kansas City Royals, which is something you never want to do, but what the Diamondbacks did next wasn’t common in past years.

The Diamondbacks would have folded and given up after getting behind, but that wasn’t the case versus the Royals.

They were behind by 4-0 right out of the gate, but came back to win 9-5. The next night, the Diamondbacks were down 6-3 going into the bottom of the 6th and won 8-6.

That’s a good sign for a team looking to grow and move on from a 52-110 record a season ago. The D-backs are going into this one with a record of 23-22.

The Dodgers, Padres, Giants are still the class of the division, though. It’s difficult on the Diamondbacks playing in this tough division.

The Dodgers are entering Thursday night with a record of 29-14 and a 1.5-game lead on the Padres. They are the team to beat. The D-backs are seven games back as of Thursday.

LA returns home following a 1-0 loss to the Washington Nationals. They took a split in the two-game series, with a 9-4 win and 1-0 loss. The Dodgers won seven straight before closing a three-game series with a loss to the Phillies on Sunday.

Dodgers vs. Diamondbacks Prediction:

Depending on how well things are going at the trade deadline, the Dodgers might consider bringing in an arm for the rotation. This is a good pitching staff, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see them add depth.

Mitch White is currently in the midst of an audition for the starting rotation. After two games in 2020, White primarily worked out of the bullpen last year. He held up pretty well in 21 games with an ERA of 3.66 and a 1.18 WHIP.

White needs to get back to that form this season. He’s been having problems figuring it out and getting into a groove.

In his first start of 2022, White ran into trouble versus the Philadelphia Phillies five days back. White has been used five times out of the bullpen and one start. He’s going into tonight with an ERA of 6.17 and a 1.29 WHIP.

The Phillies tagged White for 3 hits and 3 earned runs in 2.1 innings

Through his most recent 3.2 innings, White allowed 4 hits, 2 walks, and 5 runs. The Diamondbacks are hot at the plate recently, with 38 runs scored in their last five outings.

Arizona is hitting .286 with 7.77 runs scored per 9 innings. They are feeling good right now, and White must be better.

LA Dodgers vs. Arizona Diamondbacks Betting Trends:

  • Record (Last 10): 8-2
  • 4-1 overall in their previous five games on the road
  • 12-5 overall in their previous 17 games at Arizona
  • OVER is 13-3-2 in their previous 18 games after a loss
  • OVER is 7-2-2 in their previous 11 games versus a right-handed starter
  • OVER is 9-3-2 in their previous 14 games

  • Record (Last 10): 5-5
  • 5-1 overall in their previous six games
  • 7-2 overall in their previous nine games on a Thursday
  • OVER is 5-0 in their previous five games
  • OVER is 14-2-1 in their previous 17 games as an underdog
  • OVER is 3-0-1 in their previous four games versus the Dodgers

  • I’m confident in the Dodgers finding offensive output against Humberto Castellanos. Castellanos has an ERA of 4.29 and a 1.18 WHIP. In his previous three attempts he’s notched a 4.50 ERA and 1.06 WHIP.

The Dodgers are hitting .389 with a .444 OBP versus Castellanos in 17 at-bats.

The Dodgers are leading the major leagues with an average of 5.56 runs scored per 9 innings. They also lead the majors in OPS at .751.

The Diamondbacks rate towards the back of the majors out of the bullpen. As a team, the Arizona bullpen has an ERA of 4.42 and a 1.39 WHIP.

There has been an average of 12 runs scored in the last three meetings between the Dodgers and Diamondbacks. It appears that this one is pointing to a high-scoring final as well. They should get into double digits, with the OVER worth considering.
