Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Philadelphia Phillies Pick – MLB May 20, 2022

The Los Angeles Dodgers and Philadelphia Phillies go from the west to the east coast, as they meet again after a four-game series at Dodger Stadium last week. The Dodgers were not at their best in that series.

After shaking off a bad week of baseball, which included a series loss at PNC Park, the Dodgers are looking much better. Philadelphia went to Dodger Stadium and won three of four games. They were able to win a close one in the series finale to prevent a sweep, 5-4.

The Dodgers beat the Diamondbacks in four straight games for a series sweep. They are coming off a 5-3 win on Wednesday. Walker Buehler bounced back nicely after a tough showing verssu the Phillies.

The offense broke out the bats for a 12-3 win against Merrill Kelly a day earlier. Kelly had been pitching well, but he lasted just 2 innings against the Dodgers. Needless to say, the Dodgers are back to form.

The Dodgers are 25-12 with a 1.5-game lead on the San Diego Padres in the NL West.

Despite a frustrating stretch for the Dodgers, they are going to just be fine this season. The best teams during a long schedule have their bad moments.

Unfortunately, the Dodgers don’t have a fully healthy rotation right now. Clayton Kershaw is out until at least early June with a sore pelvis. Dustin May is expected back in mid-July.

Julio Urias is back looking for a better performance after his worst performance of the year against the Phillies last week. This is a rematch between Urias and Ranger Saurez following an 8-3 win for the Phillies at Dodger Stadium.

Dodgers vs. Phillies Prediction:

Julio Urias was tagged for 8 hits and 5 earned runs in 6 innings last week at Dodger Stadium. The Phillies had the upper hand on Urias for his first rough start of the season.

Urias was rolling up to that point, but the Phillies were able to exploit some bad pitches. The Phillies moved on for an 8-3 win, while Ranger Suarez went 7 innings with 5 hits and 3 earned runs conceded.

Despite a slow performance last week, Urias has been reliable otherwise. He had an ERA of 2.10 going into that attempt versus the Phillies. Urias left with an ERA of 3.00.

Along with an ERA of 3.00, Urias is going into tonight with a 1.14 WHIP and .286 OBP. He yielded 2 or fewer earned runs in five straight outings before getting roughed up versus the Phillies.

That start against the Phillies is likely an outlier. Urias is a much better hurler than he exemplified in that one.

Urias had a bad game last week, but he’s typically been reliable against the Phillies. The Phillies are hitting .211 with a .246 OBP versus Urias in 63 at-bats. The Philly bats were on fire, but they’ve quieted down since then.

LA Dodgers vs. Philadelphia Phillies Betting Trends:

  • Record (Last 10): 6-4
  • 4-1 overall in their previous five games on a Friday
  • 9-3 overall in their previous 12 games versus a left-handed starter
  • 71-29 overall in their previous 100 games as a betting favorite
  • 5-0 overall in their previous five games
  • 4-2 overall in their previous six games on the road

  • Record (Last 10): 6-4
  • 2-6 overall in their previous eight games at home
  • 1-4 overall in their previous five games as an underdog at home
  • 6-2 overall in their previous eight games on a Friday
  • 4-1 overall in their previous five games versus the Dodgers
  • UNDER is 5-0 in their previous five games at home

  • I’m in support of Urias getting back on track after faltering. He should learn from his mistakes and come back on Friday night in better form.

The lefty has been fine on the road this season with a 3.32 ERA through 19 innings.

For the Dodgers, there should be motivation to respond in Philadelphia. They played a poor series last week, and the Phillies have cooled off since then.

The Phillies have scored a total of just 3 runs in their last three games. They were shutout in two, with 3 runs in a 3-0 run agianst the Padres on Wednesday.

Ranger Suarez allowed 5 hits and 3 earned runs in that start against the Dodgers. He’s been sharper on the road than at home this season.

He has a 2.50 ERA and 1.17 WHIP on the road, but a 4.91 ERA and 1.58 WHIP through 19 innings in Philadelphia. After seeing Suarez last week, the Dodgers should have a good feel for him tonight.

Look at the Dodgers to open this series with a win after getting off to a slow start against the Phillies last week. I’m backing the Dodgers on the moneyline.
