Mariners vs. Angels Pick MLB – Sept. 26th

Things started out OK for us as Anthony DeSclafani pitched well and Noah Syndergard was fantastic… until the Mets exploded in the seventh inning, scoring five times and the two teams massive bullpen issues reared their ugly heads as a whopping THIRTEEN runs crossed the plate in the final three innings to leave our under pick tragically adrift. We hit a bit of a skid this week after a nice run where I capped seven of eight picks with profits. Let’s see if we can get things back on track today with a slump-busting winner.

Meanwhile, things just keep getting more and more interesting in the AL Wildcard race. Texas dropped Houston yet again, all but assuring the Rangers will win the division and the Astros will be left trying to salvage the second wildcard position. With Los Angeles’s win last night, the Angels are just a half game behind and the Indians are only 1 ½ to play. It’s going to be an interesting night, as the Angels will be facing King Felix.

Let’s snap our skid and notch a Saturday winner.

Today’s Free Pick:

Seattle Mariners -105 at Los Angeles Angels -105 (Total: 7)

Andrew Heaney vs. Felix Hernandez

The Angels did something rare in their last meeting with Seattle and King Felix. They won. However, before we infer too much confidence from that meeting, consider that Hernandez was 6-0 with a 6-0 with 0.94 ERA in his last six matchups against the Angels, including a 2-0 and 0.74 ERA mark on the road. I expect him to be very, very sharp tonight.

The Angels have won six straight games overall to storm back into serious playoff contention. Personally, I think they’ll overtake the Astros by next weekend and earn a berth. And it is likely a GOOD thing for MLB to have several of their marquee stars alive in October. However, I don’t think tonight is a good matchup. Heaney has been very good this season, but over his last three starts, despite a 3.34 ERA which is solid, his seven walks against only eleven strikeouts is a little concerning.

In a one-game wildcard, the Angels have the same problem the Yankees have; there isn’t that dominant guy like a David Price or Dallas Kuechel (road woes aside) to hand the ball too. However, since their likely opponent IS the Yankees, there has to be a real sense of “if we can just make up one more game, we got a real shot to win this thing” brewing in Anaheim. I’ll still take King Felix tonight, but fully expect to be writing about the Angels in the Wildcard game next week.
