We came up a run short last night in the Rangers’ 5-2 win over the Yankees on ESPN’s Sunday night baseball to cap off a disappointing weekend. But alas, we have a new week today and a brand new slate of games to pour through, so no time like a holiday Monday to start a fresh new winning streak and get on a roll. Speaking of ‘on a roll’ – how about the Houston Astros? They now have the BEST record in all of baseball after winning a weekend series against the mighty Tigers. But with the 13th best OBP in the American League at just .303, can they continue to score enough runs to pace the league? I’m on board with Houston, this is a good team. But honestly, they aren’t the best team in baseball, so it’d be wise to keep an eye on them and how aggressive Veags gets setting their lines, especially on days Dallas Kuechel isn’t pitching…
Let’s get after it and start the week off in a winning fashion.

Today’s Free Pick:
Seattle Mariners +120 vs. Tampa Bay Rays -130 (Total: 7)
Roenis Elias (1-1, 2.76 ERA) vs. Jake Odorizzi (3-4, 2.43 ERA)
Jake Odorizzi deserves better than a 3-4 record. His 2.43 ERA ranks among league leaders and he has pitched like an All-Star to help keep the unlikely Rays in first place in a division every expert picked them to finish last. However, a lack of run support has plagued the young hurler, receiving just an unfathomable 1.9 runs per contest. The story hasn’t been terrible different for Roenis Elias. He has gotten just 2.6 runs of support this season.
Both pitchers have been dominant at times, displaying good control and keeping runners off base. Odorizzi enters with a WHIP under one at 0.96 and Elias posts an also-fantastic 1.10. He may catch a break tonight as well with Loney and Cabrera both questionable for the Rays and Souza listed as doubtful. The Rays have only mustered two runs in their last two games and with a weakened lineup tonight they could struggle once again.
The UNDER is 8-3 in Seattle’s last eleven games and the UNDER is 6-2 in Jake Odorizzi’s last eight home starts. This feels likea 3-1, 3-2 type baseball game to me, so I’m going to stay with the numbers and back the pitchers against some slumping offenses tonight. Seattle scored fiveruns in their last three games and has only exceeded four runs in a game once in their last ten.
I’m taking the UNDER tonight at the Trop.
