Mariners vs. Royals Pick MLB – September 2nd

August was another huge month for me handicapping the MLB season. If I can have anything comparable to that I will be extremely happy. I said that about July though, and out did myself by having an even bigger August. Let’s look to do the same thing in September, where we have NFL and college football betting at our disposal as well. Yesterday was a day to forget, however. I foolishly bet the RL on the Dodgers instead of going with my first instinct, which I mentioned in the article, and went with the under. It would have an easy win, but oh well, back to the grind on Monday. Given that tomorrow is Labor Day, we get plenty of action throughout the day for you to get your gambling fix in.

Free MLB Pick:

Seattle Mariners -115 at Kansas City Royals +105 (Total: 7.5)

Felix Hernandez (12-8, 2.97 ERA) vs. Danny Duffy (2-0, 1.10 ERA)

Note that this is an afternoon game beginning at 2:10 EST, as most of the games on the card today are afternoon contests. The Seattle Mariners armed with Felix Hernandez will travel to Kansas City for a series with the Royals. Greeting the Mariners will be a little known pitcher that has been making some noise in the limited amount of time he has had in the majors this season. We all know how efficient King Felix is, but not a lot of people know who Danny Duffy is. Duffy is a left-hander that has bounced around at the big league level and minors the last few years. He is still young at 24 years old, so he had room to grow after a disappointing rookie season in 2011. He’s recently made a return to mound for the Royals, where he couldn’t be pitching any better. His most impressive start came against the Detroit Tigers two starts ago, allowing only 1 hit against one of, if not the most vaunted offenses in all of baseball. Duffy followed that terrific start against the Tigers with a gem against the Twins, giving up no runs in 6.2 innings pitched. He’s also failed to allow a home run thus far this season.

Duffy’s counterpart for today needs no introduction. Hernandez has asserted himself over the years as one of the games best, and will be remembered long into his retirement. Unfortunately he has had the displeasure of playing for the Mariners and been blessed with plenty of run support. Hernandez has actually been pitching uncharacteristically lately, posting a whopping ERA of 9.64 in his last three games, getting shelled against the Rangers in two games to account for that number. While that ERA looks ugly, it has been the only time this season that Hernandez has gotten out of form. He still holds an excellent ERA on the road, where it currently sits at 2.54 with a 1.12 WHIP.

If Duffy pitches half as good as he did in his last two games, then this has pitchers’ dual written all over it. I can’t see Hernandez letting his last game against the Rangers get to him too much, as he should bounce back against a team that is not as offensively equipped as they are. The Mariners’ offense is better than a season ago, I mean they couldn’t get much worse, but they are still susceptible of falling asleep at the plate, especially against lefties (.224) which Duffy is. I thought we were going to see a total of 7 here, so I definitely like what I am seeing with the 7.5 on the under.
