We slid in safely under the super-low six run total last night in Los Angeles, but good ole’ Bartolo Colon made us sweat a little bit. You never want to see a four-spot in the first inning when you are sitting on an UNDER wager, but Colon settled down, the Mets pen did their thing, and we ended up with another winner.
Oh yeah, and that whole “Clayton Kershaw” thing. Kershaw was again masterful, completely shutting down the Mets lineup and notching his fifth straight ten strikeout game. He missed by one walk of becoming the first pitcher EVER to record four straight ten strikeout/no walk games. A David Wright walk thwarted that bit of statistical minutiae history, but his dominance was still breathtaking.
Just think if he was facing Syndergaard last night, the OVER/UNDER might have been 5…
Let’s see if we can keep things rolling tonight and notch another MLB winner.

Tim Kohler vs. Gio Gonzalez
Gio wasn’t as sharp as he has been all season in his last outing, allowing five runs in just over five innings, but his numbers for the year are still exceptional. He enters with a 2.19 ERA even after it jumped nearly a full run after his last outing. I expect him to be back to normal tonight and to pitch well at home against a familiar foe. He is 6-3 with a 2.18 ERA in his career against the Fish. Look for him to be solid tonight.
Kohler has been less than solid this season. His ERA is near six at 5.86 and Bryce Harper has touched him up more than any other pitcher with a staggering SIX longballs in just 28 at bats. I expect him to get a little more of the Barry Bonds treatment tonight, but for it to finally backfire as the Nats finally offer him some protection now that they are facing a little softer pitching situation than in the Chicago series.
It all adds up to a nice opportunity to get greedy on the runline. You can get the Nats at around +125 if you are willing to swallow the run. I am going to bet on Daniel Murphy and his insanely hot start buffering Harper in the cleanup spot tonight and to the Nats getting the extra runs they need to support Gio in a strong effort.
