The only thing that was going to stop us from cashing the Tigers RL last night was rain, and thankfully it was light enough for the game to continue on and for us to cash an easy winner. There was a pitching change on the White Sox side of things, so hopefully you locked the bet in following the news because your bet would be void if the original pitcher was listed as the starter. It didn’t really matter how Max Scherzer did Friday night as a result of the offense bringing out the big guns, pummeling Alexrod en route to a 12-5 win. Let’s try and find a winner tomorrow on the MLB card with most bettors focus turning to college football.
Free MLB Pick:
Miami Marlins +267 at Washington Nationals -295 (Total: 7)
Tom Koehler (3-10, 4.51 ERA) vs. Stephen Strasburg (7-9, 2.96 ERA)
The Washington Nationals just won’t go away. After looking completely out of the playoff picture, the Nationals have won eight out of their last ten games to catapult them into an unlikely scenario a few weeks ago. The Nationals are going to need to keep winning the rest of the way if they’re going to earn a spot in the postseason, but nonetheless, it has been an impressive run for a young team.
The Nationals received lights out pitching from starter Jordan Zimmermann who has been solid as a rock in the latter stages of the season. They expect to get the same from their ace Stephen Strasburg tonight. Whenever you see Strasburg starting at home, you need to take a look. Strasburg is one of the toughest home pitchers in he majors, posting an ERA of 1.55 in Washington. His WHIP and OBP are quite fantastic as well, where they sit at 0.84 and .237. He’s also been playing well in his last three starts, holding down a 2.57 ERA and 0.79 WHIP. While I like seeing home Strasburg starts, I’m sure the other team would rather not see him. The Marlins got to him for 4 runs in Miami in their last meeting, but I think he returns the favor at home where he feels most comfortable pitching.
Tom Koehler is not in Strasburg’s league, of course. However, Koehler has had some good starts this season. The problem with Koehler though is that he is so erratic it is difficult to back him. He’ll have one game where he allows 1 or 2 runs, but follow it up with three straight awful starts. The last time Koehler was in Washington it was ugly, giving up 6 runs in 5 innings pitched back on August 29th.
When I see Strasburg at home I tend to make a play on the under or Nationals RL. Tonight I’m going to make a case for the Nationals RL. The Nationals have been a machine lately, and I don’t think they’re going to stop with their ace on the mound. The offense has come alive lately, which should have been the story all season long, but they are beginning to show positive results. The power is there in the lineup and it’s finally starting to come together. The Nationals should win fairly easily tonight, improving their chances at sneaking into the playoffs. At this time of the year, it’s important to ride teams with something to play for playing against the ones that have packed it in for the year. Similar to last night, I’ll make a RL play on a big favorite.
