Milwaukee Brewers vs. San Diego Padres Pick – MLB May 24, 2022

The Milwaukee Brewers and San Diego Padres continue their three-game series at Petco Park in San Diego. Backed by a solid performance from Nick Martinez, the Padres edged out the Brewers by a score of 3-2.

San Diego is on a heater with five straight wins and a win in seven of their previous eight attempts. The loss during that stretch was a 3-0 final on May 18. They lost that contest in Philadelphia and then won four in a row to close out their road trip.

The Padres are second in the NL West with a record of 28-14. They’re a half-game behind the Dodgers. It’s going to be an entertaining race in the NL West down the stretch.

This is a tough division to be in for any team. The Dodgers, Padres, and Giants are all good teams that may easily win another division if they weren’t in the NL West.

Right now, it’s all Dodgers and Padres, though. The Giants are six games behind the Dodgers with a record of 22-19. Last season it was a race between the Giants and Dodgers after it was expected to be the Padres and Dodgers.

This season it appears things are going to go as expected from projections last year.

The Brewers are leading the NL Central with a record of 26-16 over the St. Louis Cardinals by two games. They’re coming off back-to-back losses against the Nationals, 8-2, and the 3-2 loss to the Padres.

Milwaukee had won five of six games going into the series finale against the Nationals on Sunday despite the two losses. That was a poor performance from Freddy Peralta, as he was hit hard early in that one.

Corbin Burnes has another standout season in the works in 2022. Fresh off a Cy Young, Burnes is in good form so far this season.

Burnes is expected to get the nod for the Brewers on the hill tonight. The Padres are scheduled to counter with Blake Snell, who will be making his second start after a rough start to his 2022 campaign.

Brewers vs. Padres Prediction:

Blake Snell made his debut with the Padres last year. He spent five years with the Rays and left for big money in San Diego. Snell struggled mightily at times, but he was able to stabilize and finish with an ERA of 4.20 and a 1.36 WHIP.

It was fine, though the Padres are paying Snell a lot of money to play more of an ace role. Snell wasn’t able to make an impact in his first start of this season. In fact, he was hammered on the mound against the Phillies.

Snell went 3.2 innings with 3 hits and 3 earned runs. He also yielded 3 walks in a frustrating performance for the 29-year-old.

During his rehab back to the major leagues, Snell played Single, Double, and Triple-A ball. He finished with an ERA of 2.77 and a 0.85 WHIP.

Snell is going to have to be much better with Burnes on the other side for the Brewers tonight.

There have been pitchers in the National League this season with better numbers, but Burnes continues chugging along with no hangover after winning the NL Cy Young and is likely going to hols strong.

He’s actually on pace for a better season than his Cy Young campaign going into Petco Park. This is a pitcher’s park, so Burnes should like his trip to San Diego.

Milwaukee Brewers vs. San Diego Padres Betting Trends:

  • Record (Last 10): 6-4
  • 4-1 overall in their previous five games after a loss
  • 5-1 overall in their previous six games on a Tuesday
  • 19-9 overal in their previous 28 games as a betting favorite
  • 7-3 overall in their previous ten second games of a series
  • 9-4 overall in their previous 13 games at San Diegp

  • Record (Last 10): 8-2
  • 8-17 overall in their previous 25 games versus a team with a winning percentage better than 60%
  • 13-29 overall in their previous 42 games as an underdog at home
  • 2-6 overall in their previous eight games versus the Brewers
  • 4-9 overall in their previous 13 games at San Diego
  • UNDER is 4-0 in their previous four games versus the Padres

  • Burnes is going into Petco Park with an ERA of 2.26 and a 0.83 WHIP. He’s been strong on the road, with a 1.80 ERA and 0.92 WHIP through 25 innings. As we said, Petco is a pitcher’s park, so this shouldn’t be a problem for Burnes.

Burnes has been a major threat against the Padres in his career.

This current San Diego roster has been able to do little against Burnes. They are hitting .062 with a .135 OBP in 38 at-bats against the Cy Young winner.

Coming off back-to-back losses, expect the Brewers to bring a better effort tonight. Conversely, the Padres might get a bit complacent following five straight wins.

Look for the Brewers to bounce back with a win after a close loss in extras last night. It appears like we are pointing towards a rubber match tomorrow at Petco Park.
