Chris went 1-0 last night, with his underdog cashing in. The Reds game was a no bet with Cueto being pulled from his start. You need to check out this “5 Star” MLB pick I have going at my blog. I am 5-2 on the year with my 5 Star picks…
Oakland A’s -130 @ New York Mets -150 Total: 7
Josh Outman (2-1, 3.14 ERA) vs. Dillon Gee. (7-0, 2.86 ERA)
Just a month ago, the entire American League West was separated by less than 1.5 games. Since that time, the Oakland A’s had the bottom fall out, going 5-16 on the road and eventually getting their manager fired.
However, things are looking up a bit in the Bay as Oakland travels to visit the Mets riding high on a five game winning streak. Tonight, they hand the ball to the lefty Josh Outman, who should feel pretty comfortable facing a Mets team that hits just .225 against southpaws.
Not that Oakland has much to brag about on offense either. Their .235 team batting average is the worst in the AL, and to complicate matters even further, tonight they face one of the surprising early season Cy Young candidates, Dillon Gee. Gee enters tonight’s game a perfect 7-0 which is made even more impressive by the fact the Mets are not a very good baseball team. Over his last three starts Gee has been simply unhittable, posting a microscopic 0.47 ERA.
Oakland is a lousy hitting team facing the hottest pitcher in the NL. The Mets can’t hit left-handed pitching and they face a decent one tonight. That sounds like a pretty good recipe for a 3-2 or 2-1 ballgame. I’m playing the UNDER tonight and looking to get a little more bang for my buck at +120 on the slim 7 runs.
Houston Astros +175 @ Texas Rangers -200 TOTAL: 9
Jordan Lyles (0-2, 4.30) vs. CJ Wilson (7-3, 3.03 ERA)
It’s been a long season for the Houston Astros and we haven’t even made it to July yet. They have lost 12 of their last 16 games. They have lost 13 of their last 17 interleague games. Over the last two seasons they are 2-11 against their in-state rival Rangers. Those are some ugly numbers.
Tonight, the ‘Stros send their prize twenty year-old righty, Jordan Lyles to the hill in search of his first major league victory. Facing josh Hamilton and company on the road isn’t a particularly easy place to get it.
The Rangers boast one of the better team batting averages in the league at .260 and can put runs on the board in bunches. Couple that with the fact their ace, CJ Wilson, is getting the ball tonight and there is a lot to like about the Rangers chances tonight. The Rangers have gone 21-5 in the last 26 games that Wilson started. That’s about an 82% clip.
The regular line is going to cost you a ton of juice if you want to wager the Rangers (-200), so my play tonight is the -1.5 run line, which can get you back down to almost even money at -105.
Jordan Lyles, 0-2, 5.06 last three starts
20 years old, still seeking first major league win
Hunter Pence expected to make his return to the lineup tonight
Houston is 4-13 in last 17 interleague games, and 4-12 overall
Wilson, 2-0, 1.99ERA, 18 K’s in last three starts
UNDER is 8-1 in last 9 interleague games for TX
Rangers are 10-2 against Astros
Josh Hamilton is batting .486 (34-for-70) with five home runs and 20 RBIs in his last 16 games against National League opponents.
