MLB Predictions for August 2nd:
Toronto Blue Jays @ New York Yankees – Expected to do some movement at the trade deadline Saturday, the AL East fourth place Blue Jays were quite, making no deals on the deadline day. Coming off a home series loss to the Indians, the Jays are sending Brandon Morrow to the mound who is 7-6 on the season with a 4.62 ERA. The Yankees will be sending ex Blue Jay AJ Burnett to pitch tonight, who is 9-8 on the year with a 4.52 ERA. After a horrible June, Burnett seems to be back in form as he is coming off of some solid pitching in July. The over is 6-2 in Morrows last 8 road starts, 9-1-1 in the Yankees last 11 home games, and the over is also 6-2 in the Yankees last 8 games vs AL East teams. PREDICTION – OVER 9.5 RUNS (+106)
Minnesota Twins @ Tampa Bay Rays – This will be a big series for both teams, as the Twins sit 0.5 games back in the Central and the Rays sit 1 game back of the Yankees in the East. Twins are sending Carl Pavano to the mound who is 13-6 on the season with a 3.21 ERA, and has been stellar lately going 3-0 in his last 3 starts with a 1.17 ERA. The Tampa Bay Rays have called up Jeremy Hellickson, a big time prospect, to make his major league debut tonight. Hellickson is 12-3 in AAA this year with a 2.45 ERA and has only allowed five homeruns all year. Although I think Hellickson will pitch a good game, I am not sure he can put up the type of performances that Pavano has been showing as of late. The Twins are 13-3 in their last 16 games and , as underdogs, I look for them to continue to roll here tonight with Pavano on the mound. PREDICTION – TWINS TO WIN (+106)
Milwaukee Brewers @ Chicago Cubs – Two clubs that many had predicted to be fighting for the NL Central division with the Cardinals and at least the Wild Card race in the NL, see themselves sitting 13 and 14.5 games back of the Wild Card race as of today’s series. The Milwaukee Brewers will be going with Yovani Gallardo who has had a solid year going 9-5 with a 2.77 ERA, but is only 1-2 in his last 3 starts with a 4.76 ERA. The Cubs will counter with Randy Wells, who although hasn’t had the best year going 5-8 with a 4.10 ERA, has pitched well as of late with his 1.37 ERA in his last 3 starts. Chicago has won 4 of these two teams last 6 meetings, and the Brewers have lost 5 straight – I like the Cubs at home as underdogs tonight. PREDICTION – CUBS TO WIN (+105)
