Thursday nights pick can be chalked up as one of the more frustrating losses of the year. The Dodgers won the ballgame, 6-1, which cashed the Dodgers team total OVER 4.5, but the full game went under by a run. The Dodgers had multiple opportunities to score more than six runs here. The Rockies couldn’t do much even though they had Tulowitzki and Fowler back, but the Dodgers had many innings stall out with runners in scoring position with less than 2 outs. You’re going to run into games like that here and there, though, it is inevitable as a handicapper no matter what sport it is.

Washington Nationals -180 at Miami Marlins +160 (Total: 7)
Stephen Strasburg (5-6, 2.45 ERA) vs. Nathan Eovaldi (1-0, 2.55 ERA)
Stephen Strasburg brings his talents to Miami for a Friday tilt with the Miami Marlins to kick start a weekend series between the two. Strasburg has been great thus far this season, but hit a bump in the road in his last start, where he uncharacteristically got taken for 4 runs against the San Diego Padres. For some pitchers 4 runs is about the norm, but that is not a typical start for Strasburg. For someone that usually allows only 1 or 2 runs, 4 isn’t what you come to expect from a pitcher of his talent level. Just look at his splits and you will see lots of 1’s across the board.
He’ll have the chance to bounce back against the Miami Marlins, a team that would get an big boost with a win over the Nationals’ ace. The Marlins have dropped five out of their last six games and appear to be heading back down after a decent couple of weeks. The Marlins will start Nathan Eovaldi opposite Strasburg, doesn’t have the same ring to his name that Strasburg does, but Eovaldi is a budding talent with a bright future ahead of him. In fact, his ERA is just a hair above Strasburg’s at 2.55. He has also been quite fine in his last three starts, posting a 2.41 ERA. Eovaldi has only pitched 6 innings at home, so there isn’t a big sample size, but in his one start, he was terrific allowing no runs against the Padres.
The Washington Nationals have some big names in their starting lineup, there is no denying that. However, for whatever reason they have had great difficulty scoring runs this season. I expect Eovaldi to hold his own against the Nationals at home. He hasn’t had a bad start yet, and I don’t foresee it happening Friday night. Also, after Strasburg had a rocky start in his last outing, I like this play even more. I fully expect him to come back and back life tough on the Marlins. I advise playing the UNDER 7.
