The beat rolled on last night, notching our fourth straight winner and seventh in our last eight games (including a couple of large underdogs). This time we tucked comfortably under the ten run total, even without All Star Shelby Miller being as sharp as he has been all season long. Either way, the Bravos and Rocks kept the runs under control and we cashed yet another winning ticket.
A team that did NOT cash a winning ticket yesterday were the Detroit Tigers. Things were looking good when they took a 6-1 lead into the ninth, but that easy win quickly turned into one of the worst losses of the season as the Twins capped off a seven run bottom of the ninth with a Brian Dozier walkoff game-winning homerun. I am not sure the Tigers were going to be able to get back to the playoffs anyhow, but if they come up a game or two short, remember July 10th…
Let’s lean through the first half tape and stack a few more winners before the break.

Today’s Free Pick:
Washington Nationals +110 at Baltimore Orioles -120 (Total: 7)
Jordan Zimmermann (7-5, 3.04 ERA) vs. Miguel Gonzalez (7-5, 3.87 ERA)
Jordan Zimmermann has been fantastic lately, posting a perfect 2-0 record (Nats 3-0) and a 0.40 ERA over his last three starts. His 0.71 WHIP has been equally dominant. AND I can have him and the Nats at PLUS money tonight? Um, yes please.
Not that the Orioles or Gonzalez have been bad this season, but the recent outings for both are a far cry from what the Nats and Zimmermann have been delivering. The Orioles have only scored 22 runs in their last eight games (2.75 per) and eclipsed three runs in only one game. They are scuffling at the plate and facing one of the hottest pitchers in MLB this evening; not a good recipe for success.
The Nationals have been scuffling on offense as well, scoring just four runs in their last three games. However, Gonzalez has a 6.46 ERA in his last three starts and has been hit hard in each of them, yielding a WHIP of 1.57. I expect the Nats to be able to get a few runs off of Gonzalez today and then to let Zimmermann do the rest. I like the UNDER in tonight’s game, but the better value play is the Nats at plus-money.
