The Mets and Dodgers are at Dodger Stadium for a marquee four-game series. The Dodgers are in an unlikely situation coming off a three-game sweep, in which they were on the losing end.
— Pittsburgh Pirates (@Pirates) June 2, 2022
The most unlikely part of the series was that it came against the Pittsburgh Pirates. For the first time since 2000, the Pirates swept the Dodgers and sent them reeling into a big series against the New York Mets.
You don’t want to say that the Dodgers were looking ahead to this series against the Mets, but that wasn’t Dodgers baseball. They didn’t do anything good, including the bullpen which blew the opener on Monday.
Despite this mishap at home, the Dodgers are still in control in the NL West. They own a record of 33-17 and a three-game advantage on the San Diego Padres.
The Giants don’t have the pitching staff they’d like right now, so it could be an uphill battle for the defending divisional champs. LA were favorites to win the division pretty well the entire ride into September.
— New York Mets (@Mets) June 2, 2022
The Mets are the team to beat in the NL East. They lead the National League with a record of 35-17 and 10.5 games on the Braves. With the Mets running free out of the gate, this isn’t even close.
There is no competition at the moment, with the Mets taking advantage of a bad division. The next closest team has a record of 24-27.
The Mets are coming off a sweep of the Nationals and Phillies. They go into Dodger Stadium on a six-game winning streak and won eight of their last ten outings.

Mets vs. Dodgers Prediction:
This looks like a heavyweight matchup on paper. There is elite stuff at Dodger Stadium tonight between the starting pitchers and offenses. Taijuan Walker heads to Los Angeles in pretty good form.
Walker has a record of 3-0 with an ERA of 2.83 and a 1.26 WHIP. Walker boasts an ERA of 2.65 and a 1.47 WHIP in his previous three tilts.
During his latest stretch, Walker had to work had to get of damage to save his ERA, though. He allowed 18 hits and 7 walks
Walker is eventually going to pay for putting too many runners on base. If he continues at this pace, the Dodgers will likely have a decent night at the plate.
They’ve been out of sorts recently, but after a sweep against the Pirates, there should be motivation to show up in a big game versus the Mets.

Tony Gonsolin has been used as a utility pitcher over his first few years in the majors. He could have likely been a full-time member of the rotation for a while now, but the rotation was too stacked.
He is going into this big showdown, with an ERA of 1.80 and a 0.93 WHIP in 45 innings of work. The Dodgers have won six of eight games when Gonsolin is on the bump.
Gonsolin has yet to allow more than 2 earned runs in a game. In his previous three attempts, he’s posted an ERA of 2.50 and a 0.72 WHIP.
All six of Gonsolin’s wins have come at Dodger Stadium. He’s on fire with a 1.29 ERA and 0.90 WHIP at home. If there’s anyone to get the Dodgers out of this slump, Gonsolin is the guy to do it tonight.
Expect to see a different Dodgers team on the diamond tonight. They should be plenty motivated to quickly put that awful series against the Pirates behind them with a win over the Mets.
