The New York Mets and San Diego Padres are back at Petco Park following a big win for the Mets in the series opener. The bats were hot for the Mets, as they piled it on for 11 runs in an 11-5 win.

Blake Snell could not round into form, as he was tagged for 7 hits and 4 earned runs in 4 innings of work. Snell was a late arrival to the rotation this season after getting over an injury. He had to work hard to get out of the 1st inning after throwing 43 pitches.
The Mets didn’t cool off after a successful series finale at Dodger Stadium. They won 9-4 on Sunday afternoon, and then turned around for a 11-5 win at Petco Park.
The club from Queens has a healthy lead in the NL East going into Tuesday night. They have a record of 38-19 and a nine-game lead on the Atlanta Braves.
While the skies are clear and blue for the Mets at the moment, we’re not even at mid-June yet. Baseball is a sport where you cannot draw any conclusions too early.
San Diego is going into the second game of this three-game series with a record of 33-22 and 2.5 games behind the Dodgers. The Padres are in much better shape than they were last year, which was a massively disappointing campaign.
If the Padres can stay within reach of the Dodgers, they will be fine after the All-Star break. It will be interesting what they’re doing at the trade deadline. There are a few directions that they can go.
It really depends on the status of Fernando Tatis Jr. His projected return date continues to be pushed back, so his status is still TBD.
This matchup looks like a good pitching matchup on paper, with Taijuan Walker and Yu Darvish scheduled to open on the mound tonight. Head below for our free Mets vs. Padres prediction on June 7, 2022.

Mets vs. Padres Prediction:
Taijuan Walker is looking to stay hot after good work through his first eight starts. He’s gone between Arizona, Toronto, Seattle, and Queens since 2019. Walker didn’t get off to a great start in his first season with the Mets.
In 30 appearances, Walker recorded an ERA of 4.47 and a 1.18 WHIP. He had a 4.00 ERA and 1.07 WHIP in five starts with the Mariners in 2020. He’s finding the same form he had in Toronto, though.
Walker is going into tonight with an ERA of 2.88 and a 1.28 WHIP. He goes into tonight with a 2.81 ERA and 1.17 WHIP in his previous three outings.
The only concern for Walker is that he’s been pretty liberal with the number of runners finding the bases. Walker has yielded 25 hits and 8 walks in his last four starts.
They’ve also notched 2 home runs and 5 RBIs against Walker during that time. I don’t see Walker getting out of this game blemish-free.

Yu Darvish hasn’t been perfect this season, but he has been tough at Petco Park. Petco is a pitcher’s park, and Darvish is taking full advantage of the situation.
He has an ERA of 5.82 and a 1.41 WHIP, but a 1.71 ERA and 0.68 WHIP in 27 innings at home. In 27 innings at Petco, Darvish has allowed just 13 hits and 5 earned runs.
The Mets are hitting .204 with a .227 agianst Darvish in 60 at-bats. They were hot at the plate last night, but Darvish should be able to quiet things down a bit.
After the Mets opened this series in impressive fashion, expect the Padres to bounce back with a better performance at Petco Park. A rubber match tomorrow night looks likely in San Diego.
