The New York Yankees welcome the Baltimore Orioles for a three-game series at Yankee Stadium. In four games, they are coming off a split against the Toronto Blue Jays. It was an entertaining series in the Bronx at Yankee Stadium. In their most recent outing, the Yankees held on for a 3-0 win in the 9th.
Aroldis Champman did his best job of trying to blow that one. Chapman was pulled out of the game, and the Yankees’ bullpen cleaned up the mess without allowing a run. The Yankees advanced to 4-3 with the win yesterday.
The Yankees have another AL East matchup, this time against a weaker foe versus the Baltimore Orioles. They’ve had a couple of tough series to open the season against the Red Sox and Blue Jays.
That’s not to say it’s time for the Yankees to take the O’s lightly. They’ve done it in the past, and the Yankees are on the road for the first time in 2022. It’s tough to get to this Yankee bullpen.
When the Yanks have a lead late in a game, it’s almost closing time for their opponents. The Orioles have to strike early against Jordan Montgomery.

The Orioles are 1-5 to open the season, which is what you would expect, but this organization has to see progress in 2022. They’ve been bad for too long, and fans want to progress at least.
Baltimore is on the heels of a 4-2 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday. They were swept at Tampa and then opened that series with a 2-0 win over the Brewers. With a couple of losses since then, the O’s will look to avoid a three-game skid.

Yankees vs. Orioles Prediction:
The Yankees will give the nod to Jordan Montgomery after a shaky start for him this season. Montgomery lost his opener against the Boston Red Sox five days back in a 4-3 loss. He was tagged for 4 hits and 3 earned runs across 3.1 innings of work for an 8.10 ERA.
Montgomery is not an ace, but he is far more capable than what was on display in that one. He posted an ERA of 3.88 and a 1.23 WHIP in his first as a rookie.
He was strong in his second full season in the majors with a 3.83 ERA and 1.28 WHIP. Despite Montgomery getting off to a slow start this season, the Yankees’ bullpen kept the team in the game.
Last year, they were fourth in the majors with an ERA of 3.58 and a 1.21 WHIP out of the bullpen.
The Yankees have the second-best bullpen in the major leagues going into Friday night. The Yankees’ relievers have a 1.30 ERA and 0.95 WHIP entering Baltimore through seven games.
The offense has been stagnant for the Yankees thus far, but Jordan Lyles should serve up hittable meatballs tonight. The former Ranger had a rare spot in 2019 where he had success with the Brewers, but is largely a liability in his career.

Jordan Lyles owns a career ERA of 5.23 and a 1.44 WHIP in 290 games. He had a 7.02 ERA and 1.56 WHIP with the Rangers in 2020 after helping the Brewers out nicely.
Lyles could not respond, well, he reverted to his career average at least. He finished with an ERA of 5.15 and a 1.39 WHIP.
Lyles has a 9.00 ERA and 2.00 WHIP in one outing this season after allowing 7 hits and 5 earned runs to the Rays to open the season. The 31-year-old has conceded 12 RBIs to the Yanks in 51 at-bats.
Montgomery has had an issue with commanding his pitches against the Yankees. The Yankees have a .393 OBP and have reached base often versus Lyles in his career.
Their bats have been quiet, but Lyles presents a good opportunity for the Yankees to have a good night at Camden Yards. Baltimore had the worst bullpen in the majors, with an ERA of 5.71 in 2021.
Look for the Yankees to clear for a 6-3 or 6-4 win on the road at Camden Yards in their first trip on the road.
