The Yankees and Astros clash in a heavyweight matchup at Minute Maid Park for one night only. This is a rare one-game series because of the short lockdown at the beginning of the season.
They missed a game to open the season, so this is that matchup in Houston. Following tonight, the Yankees will move on for a three-game series against the Cleveland Guardians at Progressive Field this weekend. Meanwhile, the Astros will welcome the Angels for three days.
The Yankees are coming off a sweep of the Oakland Athletics with three wins in three days. That was not a surprise, as the Athletics were a punching bad for the Yankees in that one.

In their latest win on Wednesday, the Yankees received a decent performance from Jameson Taillon. Taillon wasn’t in perfect shape, but he went 5 innings with 3 earned runs allowed to give the offense a chance.
The Yankees are going into Texas with a record of 56-20 and a 13-game lead on the Boston Red Sox. They are feeling good going into this mega one-day showdown at Minute Maid Park. There’s still a long distance to go in the regular season, but everything is gold for the Yanks right now.
That’s not all from the Astros in New York. They opened their trip to New York with two of three games at Yankee Stadium. The ‘Stros won a 3-1 and 3-1 final after a 7-6 loss in the series opener.

The Astros have an 11-game lead over the Texas Rangers with a record of 47-27. There is no competition in the AL West, as the Rangers are second and two games under .500.
Luis Severino and Luis Garcia appear to be the starting pitchers for this contest at Minute Maid Park. Head below for our free Yankees vs. Astros prediction on June 30, 2022.

Yankees vs. Astros Prediction:
Luis Severino appeared in only four games last season. He pitched well with an ERA of 0.00 and a 0.50 WHIP after making his long-awaited return to the mound.
His rehab process was long and grueling, with Severino missing all of the 2020 Covid-19 season. The wait was worth it for the Yankees, as Severino immediately started dealing.
The Yankees were cautious with Severino and only gave up 6 innings of work, but everything worked out well. The flamethrowing righty has his season in good order entering Texas.
Severino is looking to improve on a solid ERA of 3.38 and a 1.07 WHIP versus the Astros. He went on a nice stretch, with 1 or no earned runs allowed from May 16 to June 10.
The Yankees have a bullpen to carry this season. The same goes for the Astros, so it could turn into another matchup between these two clubs that comes down to relievers.

The Yankees are first in the majors as a pitching staff with 3.05 runs allowed per 9 innings. They’ve allowed opponents to hit just .213, which is also good for the best in the majors.
It wouldn’t take much for the Astros to take those honors over, though. The Astros are second, with a bullpen ERA of 2.77 and a 1.15 WHIP.
Luis Garcia has been in pretty decent form with an ERA of 3.68 and a 1.07 WHIP through 71 innings. He has allowed 2 or fewer earned runs in seven of his last ten starts, and just one with more than 3 earned runs.
Severino and Garcia don’t have to be outstanding for this one to be a low-scoring game. The bullpens can carry the load if they are at least decent tonight. This is what happened in Severino’s last start versus the Astros, a 3-1 final.
The sharps hammered 8.5 runs on the total down to 8 when the odds were posted. I think the idea here is that this one will be a playoff atmosphere at Minute Maid Park. Tonight looks like an UNDER game in Houston, with a 4-2 or 4-3 final.
