Deivi Garcia (3-2, 4.98 ERA) vs. Tyler Glasnow (5-1, 4.08 ERA)
The New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays clash in Game 2 on Tuesday night at Petco Park in the ALDS. The Yankees got off to a fast start on Monday night with a 9-3 over the Rays. Giancarlo Stanton put the Yankees up by 6 runs in the top of the 9th to put the Rays away.
They traded runs early, before 2 runs in the top of the 5th gave the Yanks a 5-3 lead. Stanton wanted to get on the highlight reel and he got his wish with one swing of the stick. He put up 4 runs up on the board for the Yankees with the bases juiced.
Gerritt Cole was fine in Game 1. Nothing spectacular for the money that he’s being paid. Cole conceded 6 hits and 3 earned runs through 6 innings of work. The Rays scored all of their runs on the evening in San Diego against Cole.
Blake Snell gave up 6 hits and 4 earned runs through 5 innings. He was terrific against the Blue Jays in the Wild Card, but didn’t look like the same hurler versus the dangerous Yankees’ bats. The Yankees are two games away from going to the ALCS.
The goal is to get to the bubble in Houston, and I think the Yankees have a fine chance of getting to the World Series. Despite failing to win the AL East, the Yankees are healthy and looking up now. It’s within reason to believe that the Yankees would have cleared the Rays in the division if they were healthy.
It got pretty bad for the Yankees on the injury front during the regular season. Fortunately it didn’t last for two months, or they likely don’t make the postseason. They were putting out some weak lineups that resembled a minor league club. Stanton showed last night that the Yankees are more than okay now, though.
The Yankees are expected to send rookie Deivi Garcia to the bump on Tuesday night at Petco. He made six starts in the regular season, and will make the first postseason start of his career on Tuesday night. The Yankees are high on Garcia, though he ran into speed bumps in his first campaign as a major leaguer.
They are hoping that Garcia grows a lot in San Diego tonight. It will be a great learning experience for the young 21-year-old. Former Pittsburgh Pirate, Tyler Glasnow, who was included in the Chris Archer deal, will counter for the Rays. Head below for our free New York Yankees vs. Tampa Bay Rays pick for October 6, 2020.
New York Yankees vs. Tampa Bay Rays Game 2 Betting Odds:
Yankees vs. Rays Game 2 Prediction:
The Yankees are expecting Deivi Garcia to develop into an ace in the rotation in the future. He will receive the biggest start of his baseball career on Tuesday night in Game 2 of the ALDS. Like a lot of rookies, Garcia was up and down with some success and bad spots.
Garcia notched an ERA of 4.98 and 1.19 WHIP through six starts. His best performance was his first against the Mets at Citi Field. Garcia went 6 innings with 4 hits and no earned runs allowed. It’s been an inconsistent season for Garcia since that standout outing in his first ever major league assignment.
Note that Garcia allowed at least 3 earned runs in four of his next four starts. He was hoping to build up some confidence going into the playoffs, but Garcia’s worst starts came in his last two showings of the regular season. The Red Sox tagged Garcia for 8 hits and 6 earned runs through 3 innings of work, and then the Marlins recorded 7 hits and 4 earned runs in 6.2 innings.
In his previous three outings, Garcia has netted an ERA of 7.02 and 1.50 WHIP. Not exactly what Garcia was looking for before going into the playoffs. Note that the OVER went 4-1 in his last five starts. In the one game that finished UNDER the total, that only missed by a run. There has been an average of 17.6 runs combined in Garcia’s last three outings, so run support has been there for him.
The Yankees have faced Tyler Glasnow in 76 at-bats, with 3 deep balls and 9 RBI. Stanton and Luke Voit are responsible for two of those home runs. Aaron Judge and Stanton are both hitting better than .400 versus Glasnow. Glasnow has been adequate this season, with a 4.08 ERA and 1.13 WHIP. He pitched 6 innings against the Blue Jays and left the game with a 3.00 ERA and 1.17 WHIP.
In two postseason appearances in 2019, Glasnow was rocked for a 7.71 ERA and 1.71 WHIP. He has a daunting task ahead of him against a Yankees’ offense that is fresh off 9 runs in Game 1. I’m expecting them to give Garcia quality run support in Game 2 on Tuesday night. The total looks a shade too low here, thus an OVER bet looks appropriate.
