The Oakland A’s roll into Baltimore as the hottest team in the major leagues after sweeping three games from the Minnesota Twins where they combined a shut out in a doubleheader on Tuesday before a walk off 13-12 win Wednesday.
The A’s are 12-1 over their last 13 games after starting the season 0-6. They have outscored their opposition 71-33 in the 11-game winning streak while the pitching staff combined a 2.20 ERA over the first 10 games of the streak where the opposition batted only .203.
Baltimore has won three out of it’s last five as the Orioles had already won two road series’ before the loss to the Marlins on Wednesday. The Orioles site 3.0 games off of first place Boston and 1.5 back of second place Tampa Bay in the AL East.
The Birds are 1-6 at home as they were swept by the Red Sox and won one of three against Seattle.

Oakland grabbed that 11th win in a row as the A’s walked off on a throwing error by the Twins’ Luis Arraez in defeated Minnesota, 13-12, to sweep a three-game series from the Twins at the Oakland Coliseum. Matt Olson hit two home runs and had the RBI to lead the streaking A’s. They gave up more runs in this game than in the previous seven combined.
Miami blanked Baltimore, 3-0, on Wednesday as the Marlins took two of three in Miami. The Orioles managed only four hits as they were shut out for the third time this season.

The Orioles’ Jorge Lopez gets another start as he has a 1-2 ledger with an 8.76 ERA as he has only last five innings in one game while getting shelled in the last two losses to the Yankees and Red Sox. He has given up five home runs and 13 hits in just 13.5 innings. Lopez is a strikeout pitcher though as he has 17 and only five walks.
Oakland sends Cole Irvin back to the hill with a similar record as Lopez as he is 1-2 with a 6.75 ERA. The difference is his last start on where he scattered four hits in six scoreless innings to beat Detroit, 7-0. Irvin started the season with a pair of losses to the Astros where he lasted only 5.1 and 4.1 innings
Matt Olson is the catalyst of the surging A’s offense as he is 14-of-36 with six home runs and 14 RBI over his last 11 games. This output on the heels of a 4-for-21 start to the season. He hit a grand slam in the first game of a doubleheader on Tuesday….Seth Brown has also swung a hot bat for the Athletics over the homestand sweep of the Tigers and Twins as he went 6-for-12 with four runs and three RBI….
Oakland is looking to jump-start Ramon Laureano, who was 2-for-27 in the last seven games. He does lead the majors with eight stolen bases which is more than 16 of the teams.
Mark Canha leads the AL and is second in the majors in runs scored with 19 and he is tied for second in the AL with 13 walks and hit by pitches with four. He has been hit by 57 pitches in his Athletics career, three off the all-time record… Elvis Andrus continues to struggles with his bat as he is batting .143 which is near the bottom of the majors. He did have a couple of stolen bases in the first game of Tuesday’s DH.
Rookie Maikel Franco has swung a hot bat so far with 16 RBI off 15 hits. The 16 RBI are third in the AL and sixth in the majors….Freddy Galvis is hitting near .400 in his last 11 games as he has multi-hit performances in three of his last five contests. Galvis began the season at 3-for-26 in his first seven games….Trey Mancini hit his team-leading fourth home run this week as he has also recorded three multi-hit games.
Orioles pitchers have not allowed a home run in four straight games which is the first stretch like this since July 21-24, 2016. All seven games which the Orioles did not allow a homer were on the road… Cesar Valdez has recorded four saves in five appearances so far to lead the Birds. The bullpen ERA of 3.55 is the sixth lowest bullpen ERA in the majors.
