The Oakland Athletics and Atlanta Braves meet for the second of two games at Truist Park.
The Braves erased an early deficit created by Kyle Wright in the top of the 1st. Wright was tagged for 2 earned runs for the only A’s offense of the game.

He settled in to pitch 8 innings with 5 hits, and the only damage inflicted was done in the opening frame. The offense was sluggish for the Braves, but a below-average performance isn’t often still enough versus the Athletics.
Ronald Acuna Jr. was responsible for 2 home runs on 2-for-4 hitting, both solo bombs which were important for a 3-2 win. 24-year-old, William Contreras, connected on a long ball as well. Contreras is one of the top prospects for the Braves, and will be well-known in the majors soon.
The Braves advanced to 29-27 with the win, though they still have a mountain to climb behind the New York Mets. Last night, the Mets were losers in San Diego, but hold an eight-game lead in the NL East.
Atlanta has an uphill challenge ahead of them in the division, but the same thing was said at this point last year. It was more to do with injuries and suspensions than skill. However, the Braves ended up figuring it out and playing as a team all the way to the World Series.
Oakland going cold is nothing new for this club. They had one inning of fun and were shut off the rest of the night. Against a good team, the Braves likely don’t win last night.
The Athletics are last in the AL West with a record of 20-37. Only the Kansas City Royals have a worse record in the division.
Jared Koenig and Ian Anderson get the call on the bump Wednesday evening at Truist Park. Koenig is making his major league debut as a 28-year-old in this one. Head below for our free Athletics vs. Braves prediction on June 8, 2022.

Athletics vs. Braves Prediction:
The Athletics will give Jared Koenig the first start of his career in the major leagues. It’s been a long wait for Koenig, but he accomplished what 99.9% of pitchers in the world don’t, which is pitch in a major league game.
Welcome to The Show, Koenig! 🎉
LHP Jared Koenig was 4-2 with a 2.21 ERA in nine games, eight starts, with Las Vegas, including 4-0 with a 1.64 ERA and .187 opponents batting average over his final six starts 🔥 pic.twitter.com/9Rt4xqaNp6— Las Vegas Aviators (@AviatorsLV) June 8, 2022
Koenig doesn’t want this to be a brief stop with the Athletics, but it’s a tough start on the road against the Braves. As spotty as the Braves were last night, they are capable of much better.
It wouldn’t have been as close if Acuna had runners on base for either of his home runs. All three of their runs were solo long balls.
Koenig finished with an ERA of 3.26 and a 1.24 WHIP in Double-A last year. He was promoted to Triple-A this season and looked good with a 2.21 ERA and 1.02 WHIP in nine games.
The Braves are third in the major leagues with 1.29 home runs per game. Koenig has to be careful in this one. Yielding home runs is often an issue for young rookies.
Despite the slow offensive performance last night, the Braves are hitting .286 with 6.32 runs per 9 innings in their last five attempts. They are good against lefties, with a .254 average overall and .313 in their previous five.

- 1-4 overall in their previous five second game of a series

Braves
- Record (Last 10): 7-3

- 5-1 overall in their previous five games as betting favorite at home

- 4-1 overall in their previous five games on a Wednesday
Ian Anderson has been struggling recently, but he’s better than his latest results suggest. Anderson posted an ERA of 6.62 and a 1.53 WHIP. He was pitching well before this pothole, though.
Overall, Anderson owns an ERA of 4.70 and a 1.40 WHIP. He was rock solid with a 3.58 ERA and 1.23 WHIP as a rookie through 24 starts in 2021.
The A’s look like the perfect spot for Anderson to get his game back together. Expect him to have much better form against the 30th ranked offense in the major leagues.
The Braves found it tough to put away the Athletics last night. They needed a late solo bomb to take the lead. It should be a bit simpler for them tonight, with a 2 or 3-run win to win and cover the runline.
