The Oakland Athletics and Los Angeles Angels are back at Angle Stadium for the second meeting of a three-game series. Oakland started off nicely with a 4-2 win last night. They rode the hot arm of Paul Blackburn to a 2-run win.

Chase Silseth was fine in his second major league appearance, but Blackburn was a bit better. Silseth allowed 6 hits and 3 earned runs in 4.1 innings. Both hurlers have promising futures in the major leagues.
The Athletics are only marginally better in the standings with the win. They moved to 17-24 on the season and still remain last in the AL West.
Oakland is 8.5 games behind the Astros for the lead in the division. This is a throwaway season, as the organization weighs its options for the future. It’s hard to hide how interested they are in following the Raiders to Las Vegas.
No one is showing up to watch the Athletics play in Oakland. The front office already seems to be angling for building a team for the move to Vegas and not being competitive at the moment.
I’m fairly certain that the Athletics prefer going on the road and playing in front of people rather than a lifeless environment at RingCentral Coliseum.
Frankie Montas will attempt to follow up Blackburn’s strong start with a standout performance. He’s been fine, though hittable on the road going into Anaheim.
The Angels are sending former Cincinnati Red, Michael Lorenzen, to the bump for this Saturday night start. Lorenzen has been inconsistent, albeit really good at times in his career. He’s off to a quick start in his first season in Anaheim.

Athletics vs. Angels Prediction:
Frankie Montas is in good form this season for the Athletics. It isn’t all dark and gloomy for the A’s, there have been some small positives to find in the midst of a frustrating year.
Montas is entering Angel Stadium with an ERA of 3.67 and a 1.02 WHIP. He’s looking good, but less effective on the road. Montas has allowed 7 runs in 12 innings on the road for a 4.76 ERA.
Montas has allowed 6 earned runs in his last 12.1 innings on the hill. He was smacked for 7 hits and 4 earned runs against the Tigers and then 5 hits and 2 earned runs in a 4-1 loss against the Angels last week.
In 94 at-bats against the Angels, they’ve hit 4 home runs and 11 RBIs. After a dud last night, expect the Angels’ bats to get more involved tonight.
They are also in the top-10 with a team batting average of .245. The power numbers have been strong as well, with 1.36 home runs per game for third, along with a .739 OPS.

Michael Lorenzen is in good shape going into tonight. Lorenzen enters tonight with an ERA of 3.57 and a 1.10 WHIP. He’s been strong at Angel Stadium, with an ERA of 3.24 and a 0.96 WHIP in six starts.
Lorenzen is coming off a blowout win over the A’s last Saturday. He pitched 7 innings with 5 hits and 1 earned run allowed. Expect Lorenzen to give the Angels a good chance to get back into the win column tonight.
Look for the Angels to respond after generating little offense on Friday. They should get enough of Montas and then go to work versus the bullpen for a 5-3 win at Angel Stadium.
