Oakland Athletics vs. Texas Rangers Pick – MLB July 11, 2022

The Oakland Athletics and Texas Rangers meet for a three-game series at Globe Life Field this week. The Rangers are coming off an encouraging performance over the weekend against the Minnesota Twins. They couldn’t complete the sweep, but won two of three games at home.

The bats came to play on Saturday, as Martin Perez didn’t have a solid showing on the bump. Perez was smacked for 7 hits and 6 earned runs, but the offense came to save him. Marcus Semien had a hot day with 4 RBIs on 2-for-4 hitting.

The Rangers spent a lot of dough to bring Marcus Semien to Arlington. He helped spur the comeback win on Saturday and has been swinging the bat much better over the past few weeks.

It took Semien to the end of May to hit a home run. He’s going into Monday night with 11, so the downfall of Semien was a bit premature. As Semien goes, the rest of the Rangers do as well. The Rangers are entering this series with a record of 39-44.

They’ve still been up and down, though at five games below .500, there’s room for the Rangers to go on a run after the All-Star Game.

Catching the Astros isn’t going to happen, but maybe the Rangers will make a run at the wildcard? A lot will have to go right, though not impossible to get done.

The Athletics lost two of three games over the weekend at home versus the Astros. They edged out the Astros on Saturday, 3-2, but couldn’t follow up on Sunday in a 6-1 final.

Oakland dismantled their roster, so there were no expectations for the A’s. They’re going into tonight at 29-58, with a whopping 28-game deficit behind for leading claims in the AL West.

The Rangers are asking Spencer Howard to show improvement in his second start since returning to the majors. He’s a top prospect, but the early stages of his career haven’t worked out well.

Adrian Martinez is scheduled to have the nod for the Athletics on the hill on Monday. He’s another pitcher that needs to get his act together soon. Head below for our free Athletics vs. Rangers prediction on July 11, 2022.

Athletics vs. Rangers Prediction:

The Rangers are being patient with Spencer Howard, but he will have to give them something eventually. Howard was a highly touted prospect entering the majors. However, his seat is on fire right now after flaming out with the Phillies in two years and not finding a rhythm in Arlington.

Howard has a career ERA of 7.44 and a 1.65 WHIP through 29 games.

After posting an ERA of 9.70 and a 1.78 WHIP through eight starts in his first season with the Rangers, there were high expectations for him this season. He’s going into Monday night with an ERA of 10.97 and a 1.88 WHIP in four outings.

After three iffy performances, Howard was sent down to the minors to work on his stuff. He did well in Triple-A, with an ERA of 3.69 and a 1.25 WHIP.

Howard must perform well against one of the worst offenses in the majors. Howard is dealing with the 30th-ranked offense in the majors.

The A’s have scored 3.23 runs per 9 innings and a team batting average of .209.

If there’s any opponent for Howard to gain some confidence against right now, it has to be the Athletics. He can’t get hit hard against the A’s at home. This is a big start for him.

Oakland Athletics vs. Texas Rangers Betting Trends:

  • Record (Last 10): 4-6
  • 1-4 overall in their previous five games on a Monday
  • 1-6 overall in their previous seven games on the road
  • 5-15 overall in their previous 20 games versus a team with a losing record
  • 2-7 overall in their previous nine games versus a right-handed starter
  • 2-7 overall in their previous nine games versus the Rangers

  • Record (Last 10): 3-7
  • 4-1 overall in their previous five games on a Monday
  • 5-2 overall in their previous seven games at home
  • 12-5 overall in their previous 17 games after conceding 5 or more runs
  • 7-2 overall in their previous nine games versus the Athletics
  • UNDER is 8-1 in their previous nine games

  • Adrian Martinez is in the same boat as Howard going into Monday night. The difference for Martinez is that he’s a rookie that’s only made three appearances in the major leagues, though.

Martinez has posted an ERA of 6.00 and a 1.40 WHIP across 15 innings.

Martinez allowed 15 hits and 10 earned runs through 9.2 innings in his most recent two attempts. While the Rangers didn’t get off to a quick start offensively, they’re turning things as of late.

The Rangers are 13th in the majors with 4.54 runs per 9 innings. In their last five attempts, the Rangers hit .263 with 6.14 runs per 9 frames.

If Howard doesn’t show up again tonight, expect the Rangers’ bats to carry the load in this one. However, I will give Howard the benefit of the doubt and support him in putting together a complete performance. He has to get it right at home versus the A’s.
