After winning six games straight, we’ve hit a moment of turbulence and will be looking to get back on track tonight. Nevertheless, I’m still up on the year and feeling pretty good about how things have been going in this young season. The number one goal to keep in mind when betting baseball, is to be sure to maintain bankroll management.
This goes for every sport, and every form of gambling, but baseball is certainly unique due to how many games are played. Also, you can frequently find games being played from early in the afternoon to late at night, so it’s especially important not to go crazy.
With all of that said, let’s look to cash on Friday. In Toronto, the Blue Jays will attempt to break out of their worst start in franchise history. The Jays head into their series against the Baltimore Orioles this weekend with an abysmal record of 1-8. The Blue Jays have been unable to catch any breaks. And while this is a long season, sometimes burying an early hole can end up becoming too much to overcome.
At 1-8, that is not some impossible hole to get out of. In fact, it’s nothing to get worked up about. However, if this turns into 1-10 or 2-12, there comes a point where you have to start wondering what’s going on.
The Jays said goodbye to Edwin Encarnacion, while retaining Jose Bautista. Bautista has done nothing to justify a big contract, yielding a .138 batting average thus far. He is still seeking his first long ball of the year.
There is still more than enough time for Bautista and the Blue Jays to turn it around, though. We’ll see if they can head in that direction tonight against the Orioles. Get our Orioles vs. Blue Jays pick below.
Baltimore Orioles vs. Toronto Blue Jays Pick
Wade Miley (0-0, 0.00 ERA) vs. Aaron Sanchez (0-0, 1.29 ERA)
Bautista and the Jays have been scratching their heads, trying to ascertain the reason for their slow start. Aaron Sanchez will make his second start tonight to try and calm the storm. Sanchez pitched a gem in his first outing, which was against the Rays, yet it wasn’t enough. The Rays edged the Jays out, 3-2, with Sanchez allowing only 1 run across 7 innings of work. Sanchez has cemented himself as a legitimate member of the rotation, and he very well could elevate himself to ace status with a strong 2017.
The Blue Jays’ offense has been lifeless this season. They showed it off some more last night, scoring only 1 run in a 2-1 loss to the Orioles. The Jays had their chance in the 9th with runners in 3rd and 2nd no outs, but failed to win or at the very least tie it up.
The Blue Jays will try it all over again tonight vs Wade Miley. In his first start of the year, Miley gave up 0 runs and only 1 hit in 5 innings against the Yankees. Can he keep it going against the Blue Jays?
Miley hasn’t had a year under 4.00 since 2013. He posted ERA’s of 4.98 and 6.17 his last two years. The Blue Jays’ offense will come to life sooner or later. I think overall this year, they’re going to have problems. But today, I can see them having a nice day at the office. I will pick the Jays to find their second win of the year.
PICK: BLUE JAYS (-140)
