Orioles vs. Tigers Pick – MLB May 17th

The Baltimore Orioles and Detroit Tigers played a wild one yesterday, with it ultimately ending in a 13-11 final for the Orioles. Chris Davis got in on the fun and delivered the goods for Baltimore, hitting two late long balls to put the O’s up. The bullpen blew it the first time around, but made no mistake to put the Tigers away following the second Davis dinger. The Orioles have been playing quality baseball across the start of the season. And if they can get Davis playing like he was some years ago, the Orioles might have something going on.

The O’s are 23-14 and are playing well, but that’s really been the knock on this team. Pretty well hasn’t been good enough, the Orioles need to move up a step and find that next level. Davis producing big numbers would be a step in the correct direction. He’s swatted 8 HRs with a .266 batting average, so there is room for improvement undoubtedly. Swatting 2 deep balls in one night most definitely helps in that regard, though. The Tigers’ offense was playing at a high-level but like usual, the pitching let them down. Michael Fulmer, who has been the best Tiger pitcher this season gets the call. We’ll see if he can change anything from last night. Get our free Orioles vs. Tigers pick here at The Sports Geek.

Baltimore Orioles vs. Detroit Tigers Pick

Ubaldo Jimenez (1-1, 6.15 ERA) vs. Michael Fulmer (4-1, 2.54 ERA)

Fulmer has been one of the only bright spots in the Detroit pitching staff this season. He came on last year out of no where, setting the mound ablaze and breaking records along the way. Late in the regular season, it was becoming clear that his arm was getting tired. Fulmer never had a pitch load like this so it was something new to him. He’s been strong this far in 2017, posting a 2.54 ERA overall. Fulmer has been consistent. In his last three outings, he yielded an ERA of just 2.14.

For most pitchers, playing in Colorado can be a career ender. However, Ubaldo Jimenez had the best years of his career as a Rockies. He’s been struggling as a member of the O’s in 2017, getting whacked for an ERA of 6.15. He blew up in his last three starts, as he was torched for a 8.16 ERA and 1.60 WHIP. I can see the Tigers responding with a win tonight behind Fulmer. For our MLB pick on Wednesday, I like the Tigers to get the job done.
