An easy win yesterday, as the UNDER 7.5 in the Dodgers/Nationals game cashed in rather easily. The Dodgers got a solo shot from Andre Ethier in the top of the 9th to break a 2-2 tie and capture the victory. Dodgers’ backers hit a pretty nice underdog payout last night as well. It was certainly a nice way to start the second half of the MLB campaign, but always need to be focusing on the future and the next bet.
Free MLB Pick:
San Diego Padres +170 at St. Louis Cardinals -200 (Total: 8.5)
Edinson Volquez (6-8, 5.74 ERA) vs. Lance Lynn (11-4, 4.00 ERA)
The St. Louis Cardinals come into Saturday night with a lead in the AL Central, and a superb 58-36 record. All signs are pointing to the Cardinals being a World Series favorite, but before they can get there, they have to focus on the next couple months of play. It appears to be a lock that the Cardinals are going to make the postseason, but in baseball, we all know things can turn in an instant. They will have an opportunity to gain even more traction against a Padres team that is disarray after a fairly decent first half of the season.
The Padres have now dropped 8 of their last 10 games after losing the first game of the series against the Cards last night, 9-6. They have been losing games every which way. The pitching has been horrific, as they don’t have that number one starter that can play shutdown baseball, and the offense has regressed significantly since playing fairly good ball early in the season. The offense will run into a hot-cold pitcher, Lance Lynn. He is quite the mixed bag, as his numbers are all over the place with not much consistency. Lynn does, however, perform pretty well at home. His ERA is only 2.44 at home with a WHIP of 1.08. The most impressive feat is that Lynn has only conceded 1 deep ball all season long pitching in St. Louis. In addition, in his last four home starts the most runs he has given up in a game is 2.
Padres’ starter Edinson Volquez will try and change the Padres fortunes around, but it isn’t going to be an easy task. He has an ERA of 5.74, and it hasn’t gotten any better in recent starts, where he has a big ERA of 7.16 in his last three performances. That’s including a 9-0 drubbing by the San Francisco Giants a week ago, a team that has been poor offensively in the last month. What worries me most against Volquez facing the Cardinals is that they bat .283 against right-handers.
The Cardinals should dispatch the Padres fairly easily Saturday night. There are no signs here that tell me the Padres are going to hang around. Thus, I am going to make a play on the Cards RL.
