Padres vs. Marlins Pick MLB – July 1st

It was another successful weekend for me, capping it off yesterday with another winner with the Angels. Hopefully it is a good sign for things to come this week and I can continue to bring home the winners. It is quite hard to believe, but we are already into July, and the All-Star game is just two weeks away. Before we know it the NFL preseason is going to be kicking off, followed by the NFL regular season opener in September. In the meantime between now and September though, lets continue to build a big bankroll for football season. There isn’t much to choose from for Monday’s action, but let’s try and hammer home another winner to kick start things this week.

Free MLB Pick:

San Diego Padres +119 at Miami Marlins -142 (Total: 7.5)

Jason Marquis (9-3, 3.99 ERA) vs. Jose Fernandez (4-4, 2.98 ERA)

I have wagered on plenty of pitchers this season that are unheard of to most people. While unheard of, they have all made money for me and that is really the only thing I am concerned about. Jose Fernandez is another one of those pitchers that probably has you asking yourself, who? There was a time earlier in the season that I was asking myself who this guy is as well, but he has done well enough to garner my attention.

Fernandez enters Monday night with an ERA of 2.98 and has only continued to get better as the season progresses. In his last three starts Fernandez has a 2.33 ERA. Even more impressive is the fact he did it against the Cardinals and Diamondbacks. At home is where Fernandez shines, with an ERA of 1.76 and a 1.05 WHIP, he is one of the best pitching in his own ballpark.

Padres’ starter Jason Marquis has been a little more difficult to figure out. There have been games he has showcased flashes of greatness, and then will get shelled his next outing. What Marquis has done this season is bounced back in a big way after a bad start. He rarely has back-to-back games where he has fared poorly. Marquis’ last game against the Phillies can definitely be classified as a dud, allowing 6 runs in only 4.1 innings. He will have a good chance at turning things around against a Marlins club that has had difficulties lighting the scoreboard up on a regular basis.

I like the UNDER 7.5 primarily because of Fernandez’s presence, but the Marlins are susceptible of getting into offensive funks, so I am sticking with the under instead of the Marlins. However, I still have a lean on them, as they should come out victorious Monday night. You may not know Fernandez now, but you will probably take note after watching him deal against the Padres.

Free Pick: UNDER 7.5
