Philadelphia has won five of their last six attempts going into the series finale on Sunday. After a disappointing start this season, the Phillies are back to .500 on the season. This team is built to score quickly, but it hasn’t come all together for them in the Bryce Harper era.
Is this finally the season where the Phillies live up to live up to expectations? We’ve seen them get hot before and then collapse, so this isn’t the time to have confidence in the Phillies.
The Dodgers haven’t been themselves this past week. Pittsburgh started something at PNC Park. The Pirates beat the Dodgers in two of three games, with a 5-3 victory in the rubber match on Wednesday.
Despite this recent slide, the Dodgers were so hot before getting into trouble that it softened the blow. The Dodgers are 20-12 and in a tie with the San Diego Padres in the NL West. They were coming off a sweep of the Cubs on Sunday Night Baseball before losing to the Bucs.
Credit the Phillies, who have been on fire at the dish. They had a tough matchup against Julio Urias last night, but got to him right away. The Phillies scored on a 3-run bomb to open the game in the 1st and kept it on through the 4th to take an 8-1 lead.

Michael Grove will receive his first start in the major leagues this afternoon at Dodger Stadium. He struggled mightily in Double-A ball last year, but settled in this season.
Grove posted an ERA of 7.86 and a 1.79 WHIP in Double-A. The fact he’s pitching in the majors after a disaster like that in Double-A ball just a year ago is pretty amazing.
In five attempts this season, Grove has recorded an ERA of 2.76 and a 0.98 WHIP. This is a big leap up for him from Double-A and to the major leagues.
He doesn’t have the biggest sample size of success in the minors and is skipping Triple-A to the Show, so this outing could be a wildcard for him. He must deal with the hottest offense in baseball at the moment.
