Uncharacteristic of the Dodgers? Sure, but the best teams can have a bad series as well. It’s a long baseball schedule, and the Dodgers are fine at 20-9 and a 1.5-game lead in the NL West.
Despite losing two of three games in Pittsburgh, the Dodgers have won seven of their previous nine games. They were on a six-game winning streak, including a sweep of the Giants and Cubs.
The Dodgers welcome the Philadelphia Phillies to Dodger Stadium for a four-game tilt. The last time that the Phillies were at Dodger Stadium, they left with a 2-0 win this past June. They lost two of three games.
It was the same at Philadelphia in August. The Phillies won a game, but dropped the three-game series.
Entering Thursday evening at Dodger Stadium, the Phillies are 14-17 and 6.5 games behind the New York Mets in the NL East.
Another disappointing letdown for Phillies fans this season? It certainly looks that way in 2022. Bryce Harper made his money, but it’s looking tough that the Phillie are going to match what his former team, the Nationals, were able to accomplish and win the World Series.

Wheeler shut down the Rockies at home, with 1 hit and no runs allowed through 6 innings of work. He followed up with 6 hits and no runs allowed against the Rangers on May 4.
In his biggest test to date this season, Wheeler will look to stay hot at Dodger Stadium. His best work hasn’t been on the road this season.
Wheeler struggled mightily in his only road start this season at Miami. He was torched for 8 hits and 7 earned runs in 3 innings of work.

In this one at Dodger Stadium, I see the Dodgers coming back home with a sense of motivation to play better. Losing two of three games at PNC Park likely gets them focused for Thursday night. The Dodgers at -140 is a fairly decent price off a loss against the Pirates.
