Philadelphia Phillies vs. Los Angeles Dodgers Pick – MLB May 12, 2022

The Los Angeles Dodgers are back home at Dodger Stadium following an unsuccessful trip to Pittsburgh. They are coming off a 5-3 loss and two of three losses at PNC Park.

Uncharacteristic of the Dodgers? Sure, but the best teams can have a bad series as well. It’s a long baseball schedule, and the Dodgers are fine at 20-9 and a 1.5-game lead in the NL West.

Despite losing two of three games in Pittsburgh, the Dodgers have won seven of their previous nine games. They were on a six-game winning streak, including a sweep of the Giants and Cubs.

The Dodgers welcome the Philadelphia Phillies to Dodger Stadium for a four-game tilt. The last time that the Phillies were at Dodger Stadium, they left with a 2-0 win this past June. They lost two of three games.

It was the same at Philadelphia in August. The Phillies won a game, but dropped the three-game series.

Entering Thursday evening at Dodger Stadium, the Phillies are 14-17 and 6.5 games behind the New York Mets in the NL East.

Another disappointing letdown for Phillies fans this season? It certainly looks that way in 2022. Bryce Harper made his money, but it’s looking tough that the Phillie are going to match what his former team, the Nationals, were able to accomplish and win the World Series.

The Phillies have lost six of their previous nine outings, but coming off a 4-2 win over the Seattle Mariners yesterday. They beat the Mariners in two of three games on the road at T-Mobile Park.

Phillies vs. Dodgers Prediction:

The Phillies will turn to Zack Wheeler in their first game at Dodger Stadium this year. He hasn’t been so hot to open to this season, but had a stellar outing most recently versus the Rockies and Rangers. Wheeler is coming off a career-high ERA of 2.78 and a 1.01 WHIP.

Wheeler shut down the Rockies at home, with 1 hit and no runs allowed through 6 innings of work. He followed up with 6 hits and no runs allowed against the Rangers on May 4.

In his biggest test to date this season, Wheeler will look to stay hot at Dodger Stadium. His best work hasn’t been on the road this season.

Wheeler struggled mightily in his only road start this season at Miami. He was torched for 8 hits and 7 earned runs in 3 innings of work.

Wheeler has an ERA of 21.00 and a .471 OBA on the road going into Los Angeles tonight.

The bullpen hasn’t been a positive for the Phillies, as they hold an ERA of 4.11 and a 1.32 WHIP. Compare that with the Dodgers in the top-5 with a bullpen ERA of 2.94 and a 0.95 WHIP.

Philadelphia Phillies vs. LA Dodgers Betting Trends:

  • Record (Last 10): 4-6
  • 0-4 overall in their previous four games after a win
  • 1-8 overall in their previous nine games versus a left-handed starter
  • 3-10 overall in their previous 13 games as an underdog on the road
  • 6-14 overall in their previous 20 games on the road
  • 1-5 overall in their previous six games at Los Angeles

  • Record (Last 10): 7-3
  • 41-10 overall in their previous 41 games as a betting favorite at home
  • 16-7 overall in their previous 23 games versus the NL East
  • 9-4 overall in their previous 13 games versus the Phillies
  • 5-1 in their previous six games versus the Phillies at home
  • UNDER is 5-0-1 in thier previous six games
  • Tyler Anderson gets the green light for the Dodgers, as the lefty looks to build on a hot start in 2022. Anderson enters tonight with an ERA of 2.78 and a 0.97 WHIP in five appearances.

Connor Overton is coming off a 8.31 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP last season. He’s looked good in two appearances in 2022, but this is only two starts.

Overton enters with an ERA of 2.53 and a 1.03 WHIP against the Rockies and Pirates. The Bucs notched 6 hits and 2 earned runs across 5.1 innings.

Anderson has been in good form to open his first year with the Dodgers. The former Rockie hasn’t allowed more than 2 earned runs and less than 2 earned runs in three of five starts.

In this one at Dodger Stadium, I see the Dodgers coming back home with a sense of motivation to play better. Losing two of three games at PNC Park likely gets them focused for Thursday night. The Dodgers at -140 is a fairly decent price off a loss against the Pirates.
