The Philadelphia Phillies and Milwaukee Brewers have a three-game series to get to on Tuesday night at American Family Field. After dropping three straight against the San Diego Padres, the Brewers are looking for better.

Milwaukee won the series opener, 5-4, but didn’t come close in their next three attempts, with a 7-0, 4-0, and 6-4 final. Eric Lauer did what he could to help the Brewers yesterday, but his 6 innings of 1 earned run baseball went to waste.
The Brewers are a half-game advantage on the St. Louis Cardianls for the lead in the NL Central. The Cardianls look like the best team in the division at the moment, but it’s a long season.
Milwaukee needs to be better, though, as they’ve lost five of their previous six outings. They were in good shape with three straight wins, but had to accept a split with the Cubs at Wrigley Field and then lost three of their four attempts.
The Phillies are in the opposite form right now, as they enter tonight with a record of 25-29. Up and down and all the way around sums up the Phillies season. It depends when you look at the Phillies to make a determination if they’re good or not.
In their most recent win, the Phillies finished off the Angels in dramatic fashion. Bryce Harper had a monster game, game-tying grand slam to erase a 4-run deficit. Then the Phillies went on for a 9-7 win.
This capped off a 10-0, 7-2, and 9-7 sweep of the Angels at Citizens Bank Park. Before the sweep, the Phillies had a five-game losing streak against the Mets and Giants. They avoided a sweep versus the Giants and then beat up on the Angels.
It’s important to be cautious with the Phillies, though. You never know what they’re going to do after a hot run.
The Phillies are sending Ranger Suarez to the bump at American Family Field. Jason Alexander is slated to counter for the Brewers.

Phillies vs. Brewers Prediction:
It wouldn’t hurt if the Phillies focused on improving their starting rotation. They can be fine, but the pitching has to catch up with the offense. The Phillies are the sixth-best team in the major leagues with an ERA of 4.80 and a team batting average of .246.
When Bryce Harper is heating up, good things tend to happen for the Phillies. They are also a top-10 home run team, with 1.22 lone balls per game. However, a guy like Ranger Suarez could afford to be better on the bump to help support the offense.
Suarez is a lefty that had a coming out party last season. Primarily as a reliever, Suarez posted an ERA of 1.36 and a 1.00 WHIP.
Suarez has been out of form in his previous three starts, with a 7.71 ERA and 2.14 WHIP. However, in his first full-time role in the rotation, Suarez hasn’t been at his best. Through ten starts, he’s notched an ERA of 4.69 and a 1.56 WHIP.
As a team, the Phillies are 18th in the major leagues with 4.46 runs allowed per 9 innings and a .243 batting average against. They must support the offense before the Phillies take off.

Jason Alexander made his major league debut against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. Alexander had a strong start despite a 4-3 loss, with 2 earned runs allowed across 7 innings.
Alexander conceded 7 hits and 3 walks for a 1.43 WHIP and .357 OBP. If he does this enough, Alexander will watch his ERA rise considerably.
Bryce Harper is the first player in Phillies franchise history with both a walk-off grand slam and a game-tying grand slam (8th inning or later) in their career.

The Phillies are hot at the dish right now, so Alexander has to be careful with his pitch selection in this one. Philadelphia can be a a streaky offense, and they’re feeling it at the moment.
The total in this matchup looks a touch too low at American Family Field. I was anticipating 9 runs, so 8.5 runs looks like an opportunity to play the OVER.
