Pirates vs. Brewers MLB Pick – September 12th

Do you remember when the Dodgers were the greatest team of all time?? In an “only in baseball” twist of insanity, the Dodgers have now lost eleven straight games – the longest losing streak for the franchise since World War II and decades before they left Brooklyn for the sunshine of Los Angeles. Sure, they are still going to win the NL West, and will still likely even have home field advantage for the duration of the National League postseason (as long as they are alive, of course) but it is getting harder and harder every day to keep the faith in My Blue Heaven…

Meanwhile, on the other extreme, the Cleveland Indians won their NINETEENTH straight game last night, and we are a few wins away from the need for a Moneyball sequel. Also, completely crazy.

We picked up a W last night with the Brewers and Pirates staying UNDER, even if it was the underdog Pirates doing all the work, as they blanked the heavily favored Brewers 7-0. The loss was damaging for the Brewers who were flying high after a crucial sweep of the Cubs over the weekend. They fall back to three behind in the loss column as the Cubs had the day off.

Let’s get back to work and see if we can notch another winner tonight.

Today’s MLB Pick:

Pittsburgh Pirates +104 at Milwaukee Brewers -114
Gerrit Cole (11-9, 3.93 ERA) vs. Brent Suter (2-2, 3.53 ERA)

The Brewers offense took the night off last night, but they will have a chance to rebound tonight against the quite literally ‘hit or miss’ Gerrit Cole. In his last outing, he was 2015 All Star Cole; delivering eight scoreless innings with just two hits allowed and eight strikeouts (four walks though). However, he only has two quality starts in his last five outings and the Pirates have lost four of his past five starts.

Suter has been good against the Pirates, with a 1.80 ERA in five appearances, some in relief. He is easing his way back from injury, so expect tonight to be an “all hands on deck” effort from the Brewers. They need wins, so expect a lot of bullpen innings, but also expect a quick hook if needed for anyone who has the ball.

Milwaukee should have their chances to score and give the pitching crew a little cushion. Cole is just 1-2 with a 4.71 ERA in five career starts at Miller Park. Milwaukee is 8-3 SU in their last 11 home games, and I think they find a way to all pitch in tonight to get a vitally needed victory.
