We came up short last night, but our loss pales in comparison to the conflicting emotions Matt Moore must be feeling this morning. On one hand, he has to be excited he helped his team grab a VITAL potentially season-salvaging win in the final game of the series against the division-leading Dodgers. He has to be relieved that after a handful of shaky starts since being traded from the Rays to the Giants, he has finally cemented himself on his new team and with his new teammates. But on the other hand… UGH. To lose a no-hitter on a blood single with two outs in the ninth inning is about as brutal as it gets. Especially when you factor in that the hit came on his 133th pitch of the evening.
Great win for Matt Moore and the Giants, but a gut-wrenching way to lose a no hitter bid…
Let’s see if we can start the weekend off with a nice winner and start a new winning streak tonight.

Today’s Free Pick:
Pittsburgh Pirates -115 at Milwaukee Brewers +105 (Total: 8.5)
Ryan Vogelsong (2-3, 2.98 ERA) vs. Matt Garza (4-5, 5.27 ERA)
Ryan Vogelsong has been a pleasant addition to the Pittsburgh Pirates who are trying to salvage a disappointing season with a little wildcard push. The 39-year old veteran has an ERA under 3.00, which is more than anyone could have asked or expected. In his last six career outings against Milwaukee he is a perfect 4-0 with a 2.53 ERA.
Opposing him tonight is another long-time veteran in Matt Garza. 2016 hasn’t been particularly kind to Garza who enters with an ERA over 5.00 to go with a career ERA of 4.36 against the Pirates. He has his work cut out for him tonight as the Pirates are starting to click, winning two of their last three games and scoring 15 runs in the process. They are back to three games over .500 and within shouting distance of the Marlins and Cardinals. Games like tonight are VITAL. They HAVE to beat teams like the Brewers and they have to take advantage of soft pitching matchups like facing a struggling Garza.
The Pirates have traditionally struggled in Miller Park, dropping a staggering 75% of games there over the last ten years, but I am not too concerned with what happened five and ten years ago – I am more concerned with getting the better team, better pitcher and the favorable line. I’ll take the Buccos tonight at near even money.
