Nothing but money once again yesterday! Not only was it a winner, but it came rather easily again. This week’s games have been fairly unstressful, as bets have been coming through for us in the early stages. The Detroit Tigers pummeled the Phillies 10-0 at the cost of Raul Valdes, who gave up 8 runs in the first two innings alone. It was a nice return for Miguel Cabrera after sitting out this week with an injury. It was actually picture perfect. He made a nice defensive play in the top of the 1st and then followed that up with a line drive dinger to left field on his first swing in several days. The guy continues to amaze me. Max Scherzer’s efforts shouldn’t go unnoticed either, as he didn’t allow a base runner in 6 innings, surrendering only 1 hit.
For Sunday we go back to a game which we cashed Friday night. I don’t see anything changing from what happened Friday night, so let’s finish the week up in nearly perfect fashion.
Free MLB Pick:
Pittsburgh Pirates -110 at Miami Marlins -110 (Total: 7)
Gerrit Cole (5-3, 3.51 ERA) vs. Jose Fernandez (6-5, 2.74 ERA)
Quite simply, Gerrit Cole and Jose Fernandez are the hottest pitchers in baseball that you may have never heard of before. If you read my writeup from Friday night, then you are aware that Cole has plenty of talent. He didn’t disappoint in that start, going 7 strong innings allowing only 1 run. Cole’s numbers are a little inflated due to how he started the year off, but he has been flawless since a couple of average starts back then. He has been so great that he hasn’t allowed more than 3 runs in over ten starts. If you look at his numbers over the last ten games, all you’ll find is lots of low numbers. In Cole’s last three starts, he has tossed well enough for a stout ERA of 2.84 and 0.95 WHIP. In addition, Cole hasn’t lost a start on the road yet this season, posting a 2.02 ERA and 0.60 WHIP. He should be excited against an offensively challenged team like the Miami Marlins.
The Marlins will send a red hot youngster of their own to counter Cole, Jose Fernandez. Fernandez is doing the best he can to make the Marlins a decent team, but with an offense as bad as they have it hasn’t made much of a difference. Nevertheless, he has pitched well enough to cash some under wagers for us. In fact, both Cole and Fernandez are 3-0 to the under in their last three starts. Fernandez has an identical ERA to Cole in his last three, 2.84. If you go back a little further, Fernandez posts an ERA of just 1.69 in his last five tilts. He is also extremely stingy at home, where he has tossed a phenomenal 1.47 ERA on the season with a 0.96 WHIP.
I think after some fireworks last night with a couple of below average pitchers starting, Cole and Fernandez turn this into a pitching duel similar to Friday night. With the line continuing to get pricier on the UNDER 7, I’m going to lock it in now and make it my official play for Sunday afternoon. I could see a 3-2 final for either team.
Free Pick: UNDER 7
