The Pittsburgh Pirates are out west after an impressive win on Wednesday. They brought out the bats for a 10-5 win for two of three wins at PNC Park against the Colorado Rockies.

Josh VanMeter and Jack Suwinski had a fun time with 3 RBIs each in the win. Zach Thompson lasted just 3 innings with 7 hits and 4 earned runs allowed. He didn’t hold up well, but the pitching staff had nice run support.
The Bucs won the opener by a score of 2-1, with the Rockies returning the favor the next day, 2-1, and then the bast erupted at PNC Park for the Pirates.
Pittsburgh is going into tonight with a record of 18-25 and ten games behind the NL Central. There aren’t many expectations for the Pirates this season, so small steps forward would be acceptable.
They finished last season at 61-101 and dead last in the NL Central. The Bucs were only better than the Nationals and Diamondbacks in the National League.
San Diego has the unfortunate privilege of playing in the toughest division in baseball. They’re going into this weekend at 28-16 and two games behind the LA Dodgers.
This team was on fire with a five-game winning streak and a win in seven of nine games.
We have a lefty on lefty matchup between Jose Quintana versus Sean Manaea. Head below for our free Pirates vs. Padres prediction on May 27, 2022.

Pirates vs. Padres Prediction:
Jose Quintana has been in great shape with the Pirates this season. He’s on pace for a career-high in his first season with the Pirates.
The veteran, who has been active in the major leagues since 2012, is going into tonight with an ERA of 2.43 and a 1.18 WHIP. He’s on fire at PNC Park, with an ERA of 2.03 and a 1.19 WHIP.
Quintana hasn’t been as dominant on the road, with an ERA of 3.72 and a 1.14 WHIP on the road. However, he’s reliable and likely isn’t going to let a game get away from the Pirates.
Quintana is not coming off his best outing, though. After allowing 7 hits and 5 runs to the St. Louis Cardinals, he exited the game. Fortunately for his numbers, only 2 were chalked up as earned runs.
Depending on run support is always questionable with the Bucs. They are 28th with just 3.48 runs per 9 innings. Pittsburgh is hitting just .225 for 26th in the majors.
That effort was the first time the Pirates have scored 5 or more runs since May 11 against the LA Dodgers. This was a streak of 12 straight games with the Pirates scoring 4 or fewer runs.
The Pirates are towards the back of the majors, with a bullpen ERA of 4.25 and a 1.32 WHIP. It’s always a crapshoot with the Pirates when their starter leaves the game.

Manaea isn’t in his best form this season, but should handle a Pittsburgh team that struggles to score consistently. He is going into this one with an ERA of 4.04 and a 1.12 WHIP.
Teams are hitting just .217 against the Padres for the third-best mark in the major leagues. Manaea should be fine at Petco Park tonight, with a big chance to earn his third win of the season.

This looks like a matchup for the Padres to bounce back after a couple of sloppy outings. The Padres look like a good deal on Friday night at even money.
