The Texas Rangers edged the Cleveland Indians out last night by a score of 2-1. The Rangers got a standout performance from pitcher Tyson Ross who allowed just 2 hits and a run across 6 innings of work. With the win the Rangers got over .500 to advance to 37-36 on the season. Conversely, the Indians took a loss to go to 40-36 in the bunched-up AL Central.
They are tied for 1st with the Twins, while the Royals are coming on strong lately. K.C. is just 2.5 games out of 1st so they’re still very well in the picture. The Royals didn’t do anything a year ago, but they did pull a rabbit out of the hat to win the World Series not too long ago. It’d be even more impressive if they take the American League by storm in 2017.
In any case, the division is there for the taking in the AL Central. The Twins are 39-35 and the Indians are 40-36, so there really isn’t much to get excited about in this division. Nevertheless, there were more than a few people who doubted the Royals, and then doubted the Indians, yet they both reached the World Series.
This division isn’t short on success in the postseason, though. The Tigers, Royals, and Indians have all been to the World Series in the last decade. If you want to go a little further back, the White Sox won a World Series in 2005. Those results don’t lie.
The Rangers will go with Yu Darvish on Wednesday, while the Indians counter with Trevor Bauer. I think Bauer has to be a guy to step up and pitch well if the Indians want to have a chance at going back to the World Series. He’s the little unheard commodity that could either make or break this team. Get our free Rangers vs. Indians pick below.
Texas Rangers vs. Cleveland Indians Pick
Yu Darvish (6-5, 3.12 ERA) vs. Trevor Bauer (6-6, 5.53 ERA)
The greatest sign of all for Darvish this season has been his ability to stay healthy. The injury bug has followed him around during his career, but knock on wood, he’s staying healthy and is a productive member of the Texas Rangers. There haven’t been too many faults in his game in 2017. Other than a bad start against the Mariners two starts ago, where he allowed 5 runs, Darvish has been on point. He holds a 3.12 ERA, including a 2.84 ERA and 0.79 WHIP in his last three starts. Further, Darvish has posted a 2.23 ERA and 1.02 WHIP on the road in 2017. Indian hitters have a total team BA of .223 against Darvish in their careers.
Bauer has done an excellent job against the Rangers, too. Note that Rangers’ hitters have a BA of .205 facing Bauer. In 44 at-bats, Rougned Odor and Ryan Rua are the only two that have taken him deep. Bauer has some nice reinforcements as well. The Indians are 1st in the majors with a bullpen ERA of 2.53. Opposing hitters are batting just .214 against their pen. I think the total is just a tad too high here. It presents what I believe is an opportunity to make a pick on the UNDER.
PICK: UNDER 9 (-110)
