Rangers vs. Yankees Pick – MLB June 27th

The Texas Rangers set their sights on the New York Yankees after disposing of the Boston Red Sox the last two days. The Rangers have been an excellent bet this season, with the odds makers continuing to disrespect them. If all you did is bet the Rangers every game this season then you’d be up significantly. The Rangers have gone 8-2 in their last ten games, and in five of those wins, they were underdogs catching plus-money. Another game, and yet another underdog role tonight. Ivan Nova and the Yankees are the favorites Monday night against the Rangers, as I see a posted price of -128 in favor of the Yanks at the moment. Nova hasn’t been having a model season, but the Yankees will have the opportunity to take Chi Chi Gonzalez to school.

Gonzalez will be making his first start of the season, after spending time in Round Rock with the AAA Red Sox affiliate. If the Rangers had a reliable rotation it’d be game over. They would be a big World Series’ favorite. Nevertheless, the Rangers have a record of 49-27 following two wins over the Red Sox. So you think how much better their record would look if there was some pitching to back them up. There aren’t too many teams out there that could be serving up Chi Chi Gonzalez and have 49 wins on the season. In the postseason this could come back to hurt them, but right now the Rangers are enjoying how they’ve been playing. If it wasn’t for the porous pitching on Friday night, the Rangers would have swept the Red Sox, as it was a 8-7 final. The Rangers have scored 23 runs in just the last three games alone. Let’s see if the bats can stay hot at Yankee Stadium this evening.

Texas Rangers vs. N.Y. Yankees

Chi Chi Gonzalez (0-0, 0.00 ERA) vs. Ivan Nova (5-5, 5.18 ERA)

As the Rangers continue to ring up the victories, they are searching for some better pitching as well. Better pitching is something that Ivan Nova has been search for, undoubtedly. He hasn’t held an ERA below 5.00 since 2013, which many believed, was going to be a turning of the stone for Nova. It was going to signal the start of a pitcher who could become a Yankees’ ace. Due to an injury, Nova finished with just four starts in 2014 for a 8.27 ERA. In 2015 Nova failed to capture his success from 2013, continuing to struggle with a 5.07 ERA. And this season, Nova enters tonight with a 5.18 ERA.

Nova has gotten ripped in his last three starts, notching a 7.63 ERA and 1.89 WHIP. In back-to-back starts against the Rockies, Nova yielded 18 hits in just two games, along with 11 runs. He will have the Rangers’ offense staring right at him on Monday night. Chi Chi comes to the Rangers after fourteen starts in AAA and he wasn’t doing so well. In what has been the worst pitching of his career, Gonzalez posted a 5.15 ERA. So, he comes to the majors with some baggage attached to him. Yu Darvish, Derek Holland, and Colby Lewis are all injured, the Rangers have no choice but to go to Chi Chi. I’m not so confident he can perform well tonight at Yankee Stadium. For me it’s going to be a play on the OVER 9.5 to get the week started.
