Rays vs. Diamondbacks Pick MLB – August 7th

I cashed in on another under wager last night with it easily hitting due to a 3-2 White Sox win against the Yankees. The Yankees got on the board early in the top of the 1st, scoring from 2nd base off a wild pitch. Other than that though, the Yankees struggled greatly to muster up any runs. It wasn’t until the top of the 9th until they got an RBI single with 2 outs. The next batter, Alfonso Soriano, went down on strikes though to hand the White Sox their victory. It has been a week of winning unders this week. Let’s see what’s in store for Wednesday night.

Free MLB Pick:

Tampa Bay Rays -132 at Arizona Diamondbacks +112 (Total: 8)

Chris Archer (6-4, 2.65 ERA) vs. Randall Delgado (4-3, 3.17 ERA)

This week’s picks have featured some of Major League Baseball’s most well-kept secret pitchers. Wednesday is no different, as Chris Archer and Randall Delgado take center stage for the Rays and Diamondbacks. The Rays were formerly one of the hottest teams in baseball around the All-Star break, but have since cooled off. They are still a good team, but have stabilized in a sense. The Arizona Diamondbacks continue to be, well, the Diamondbacks. The definition of mediocre is the Diamondbacks. They’ll look like a contender in one instance and then look lost the next.

Starting pitcher Randall Delgado has been a pleasant surprise for the Diamondbacks. Delgado has complimented ace Patrick Corbin well, notching a low ERA of 3.17 in 2013. He has also been outstanding lately in his last three starts with a 1.74 ERA. The WHIP is right on point for Delgado as well, where he pitched well enough for a 0.87 in that regard. His last start against the Red Sox was a little on the shaky side, but I expect Delgado to bounce back in a big away against the visiting Tampa Bay Rays.

The Rays will counter with standout Chris Archer Wednesday night. Archer has been another one of those under the radar type of pitchers that has excelled in 2013. Names like him have long been ignored by bettors and it has cost people plenty of money. The only hitter that has been able to figure Archer out of late has been Brandon Belt, who got the best of him in his last start against the San Francisco Giants. Nevertheless, Archer has still been fantastic, and should have a solid outing against an inconsistent Diamondbacks’ offense. They’ll beat up on poor pitching, but then falter against any pitcher that is worth anything. Before allowing 4 runs in his last start, Archer gave up only 1 run in four starts. Even with those 4 runs, his ERA in his last three starts has been solid at 1.96.

The Rays’ offense was hot at one point, but has since cooled down drastically. I expect Delgado to take advantage of that in Arizona tonight. The Diamondbacks have a hit-or-miss lineup, and I think Archer should be able to handle them well enough to keep them at bay. I like this number of 8, as I thought it was going to be 7.5, so I will lock in the UNDER 8 as my official play for Wednesday.
