A thrilling NBA Finals, an all-time great series, came to a close last night, and capped off a winning series for both the Heat and me personally. We finished 5-2 ATS for the series and had both another winning Playoff season as well s regular season. A big thanks to all of you who read and followed the picks throughout the season. I’m already looking forward to the first tipoff in November…
In the meantime, it’ll be all baseball for a few months, and that’s perfectly fine. It is shaping up to be an interesting summer, especially in the NL Central where the three best teams in the National League reside, and the National League west where teams are throwing at each other’s faces and clearing the benches at least once a week. The American League has three divisions with close races, but the most interesting race so far might be the individual MVP campaigns put on by reigning Triple Crown winner Miguel Cabrera and Orioles breakout star, Chris Davis. It will be interesting to see if Davis can continue to hang around Cabrera as a legitimate Triple Crown contender (he’s hitting .337 to go with his league leading 27 homeruns).
SO let’s start our rare basketball-free summer (no Olympics, World Championships, etc.) with a good baseball winning streak.
Tampa Bay Rays +110 at New York Yankees -120 (Total: 9)
Roberto Hernandez (4-4, 5.04 ERA) vs. David Phelps (4-7, 4.64 ERA)
The Rays took the opener of this rivalry series 8-3 last night, and tonight will hope that Roberto Hernandez can continue to keep a slumping Yankee lineup in check tonight, despite his 5+ ERA. History is not on the side of the Rays however. Sure, they memorably took out New York to earn a playoff berth on one of the most exciting night in baseball history to end the season, but in New York it hyas been a radically different story. The Rays have not won a series in the Bronx since a two-game set in May of 2010.
I’m going to go with history tonight, even though David Phelps has had a ton of struggles this season as well. The Yankees have only scored in one of their last 18 innings, but Hernandez is bringing a lifetime 7.88 ERA against the Yankees into the Bronx tonight. I expect plenty of runs to be scored by each side tonight.
