We took a tough loss last night with the Mets piling on four runs in the ninth inning to take away a pretty easy cover on the UNDER and turn it into a loss. It was a tough loss for me personally, but a nice win for Jacob deGrom and the Mets as they continue to put unexpected pressure on the Nationals in the National League East.
Speaking of pressure, there is certainly some pressure on the Tigers players this week. Want to keep your team intact? Better win four or five games this week. Otherwise, according to popular reports, they can plan on saying goodbye for Yoenis Cespedes and David Price as the Tigers, who are only four games out of the wildcard and trying to tread water while away the return of Miggy, are rumoured to be sellers in the trade deadline market.
It would be a sad end to a nice run for Detroit if it comes to a close this week. I’m not a particular Tigers fan, but with Miggy, one of the 10-15 best offensive players in the history of baseball, it would be unfortunate to see a big sell off before the last two or three years of the prime of his career…

Today’s Free Pick:
Boston Red Sox at Houston Astros
Joe Kelly vs. Colin McHugh
I’ve written about Joe Kelly’s struggles a few times this season and faded him accordingly to some degree of success. The Red Sox are hoping that a month-long demotion to the minor leagues will be enough to get him on track as he makes his return to the big club tonight (likely a spot-start, but still a chance to prove some measures of improvement). Prior to being demoted, Kelly was 2-5 with a gaudy 5.67 ERA. His last three starts were 0-2 at 6.75 ERA and a WHIP of 1.84. That’s a quick way to find yourself off the big league roster.
His opponent tonight, McHugh, hasn’t been great this season either. The Astros are a solid 12-7 in games he has started, but he has benefited greatly from the nearly five runs a game his offense has provided him on average this season. His ERA of 4.35 and WHIP of 1.29 aren’t real great.
This game has offense written all over it. Houston has gotten McHugh runs all year and Kelly hasn’t been good at preventing runs from scoring. Meanwhile, McHugh’s record is great but he hasn’t slammed the door on too many opponent lineups. I like both teams to dent the plate early and often and for this game to easily get OVER the total of just 8.
The Sox have lost six straight and only scored seven runs in their last five games (though six in their last two). I expect them to wake up a bit tonight against a favorable matchup.
