Red Sox vs. Twins Pick – MLB May 7th

The Boston Red Sox and Minnesota Twins conclude their three-game weekend series on Sunday. The Red Sox blew the doors off the Twins yesterday, destroying them for a 11-1 final score on Saturday. It was the kind of effort that the Red Sox needed from their offense. They blew a tire out of the gates offensively, and they’re still looking to find their stroke. Yesterday that all went away, as the Red Sox offense racked up 11 runs against the Twins. It was the most runs they’ve scored this season.

There’s been other bright spots on the Red Sox in 2017 this year, though. While the offense has been rather slow starters, Chris Sale has come out looking like he has something to prove. Sale will get the call on Sunday to finish up the series. If his previous work this season is any indication, the Twins are going to have problems this afternoon.

The Twins will counter with Ervin Santana, who’s having a fine season himself. The ageless one is in his twelfth season at the major league level, entering as an Angel in 2005 and continuing pitching at a respectable rate as a Twin in 2017. Santana was rock solid for the Twins a year ago, and is looking at following it up with another productive campaign. He’s off on the right track. We’ll see if both of these guys can keep it rolling on Sunday. Head below for our free Red Sox vs. Twins pick on Sunday afternoon in Minnesota.

Boston Red Sox vs. Minnesota Twins Pick

Chris Sale (2-2, 1.38 ERA) vs. Ervin Santana (5-0, 0.66 ERA)

The Red Sox hope to use the momentum they gained from yesterday, and carry it over to Monday and across the rest of the month. Boston has some talented, young talented, but putting it all together has been the mystery for them. Like I said, there were no questions about it yesterday. Chris Young ignited the offense, delivering two deep balls in the 11-run route of Minnesota.

Sale will look to duplicate the success their pitching had yesterday, too. Sale has been lights out on the hump, as he’s posted an ERA of 1.38 on the year. That includes an impressive WHIP of 0.74. He’s actually been better on the road as well, with a 1.15 ERA and 0.70 WHIP in 15.1 innings pitched. Sale has no win to show for it, though, as the offense hasn’t been able to help him out much.

Santana has been holding his own as well. In fact, his numbers have looked a bit better. Note that he’s yielded a star-studded ERA of just 0.66 this season. This is across 41 innings of work and six starts. In all, he’s allowed just 2 runs in that time frame. Santana has allowed an average of only 2.6 hits per game. At home, his ERA dips to 0.64, along with a 0.68 WHIP and .188 OBA.

Despite the onslaught from the Red Sox yesterday, their offense has had issues. I expect them to regress some after that effort, and the Twins should have a day trying to figure Sale out. Our MLB pick for Sunday is on the UNDER between the Red Sox and Twins.

PICK: UNDER 7.5 (-110)
