I did mention that I was happy that interleague was over with, and it sure showed yesterday. I went 2-0 and Chris went 2-0 as well to complete the clean sweep. I also recommended playing the Rangers team total OVER which cashed, too. Johnny Cueto pitched a flawless game, allowing only 1 hit with no runs. Wandy Rodriguez wasn’t too shabby either, as he only gave up 2 runs. It wasn’t until the 8th inning where reliever Mike Zagurski made things interesting. Not quite sure why he wasn’t yanked after tossing two wild pitches, a hit batsman, and 3 runs, but luckily it panned out anyway.
Free MLB Pick:
Boston Red Sox +100 at New York Yankees -120 (Total: 9)
Felix Doubront (4-3, 5.29 ERA) vs. Phil Hughes (4-2, 4.97 ERA)
I believe many of you have a vested interest in this game, so I made it a point to focus in on this one after I took a look at the card. The game will be featured nationally in primetime on FOX. I envision this will be the most widely bet game of the day. This edition of the Red Sox/Yankees saga features two pitchers that hoped to have a better starts to their 2013 campaigns.
Both Doubront and Hughes are going through a rough patch heading into this one. Between the two of them they have a combined ERA of 10.26. Doubront is particularly lackluster on the road, as his ERA currently is at the 5.47 mark with a pretty bad WHIP of 1.86. Yankee Stadium is perhaps the most unfriendly pitchers ballpark in MLB. I always jokingly label it a wiffle ball park for its friendly hitter dimensions. Consequently, a lot of home runs are gobbled up by the seats. Just ask Phil Hughes, as his ERA at home is 5.84 compared with his overall ERA of 4.97. In his last start at Yankee Stadium, Hughes surrendered seven runs to the Seattle Mariners’ offense.
This isn’t the same AAA looking Yankees’ lineup that you have been accustomed to seeing throughout the year. The Yankees will have Mark Teixeira active in the lineup tonight and Kevin Youkilis as well. They provide some much needed pop to go along with Robinson Cano’s fearsome power.
The Yankees rode CC Sabathia last night to a 4-1 victory, but I believe tonight they are going to need to rely on their bats a little more. I like this game to go OVER the posted total of 9 runs, which should shape up to be another entertaining edition of this rivalry.
